The Texas Sea Grant College Program is dedicated to the understanding, wise use and stewardship of the state’s coastal and marine resources. It is part of a network of 34 university-based programs in the Coastal and Great Lakes States that operate as a partnership between the state governments and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Texas Sea Grant is headquartered at Texas A&M University in College Station and also has staff members located at Texas A&M University at Galveston and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and in several other communities along the coast. Join Our Team! We are on the lookout for an Associate Director, Extension who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization. This leadership position is essential for guiding the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of our initiatives. You will spearhead the coordination of extension, education, and engagement activities for the Texas Sea Grant program, ensuring that research and extension efforts are seamlessly integrated. In this role, you will lead applied research, extension, and outreach projects that address the urgent needs of Texas’ coastal and marine communities, focusing on four critical areas: Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Resilient Communities and Economies, Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development. This position offers the flexibility to be located in either Corpus Christi or College Station. We are looking for a candidate with a Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field, proven experience in higher education, and expertise in developing and implementing impactful coastal or marine extension programs. Strong supervisory skills, particularly with remote teams, are also essential. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Eight years of increasingly responsible administrative and management experience to include strategic planning, evaluation and program implementation.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Successful development and administration of science-based and community-engaged programming and complex grant proposals and associated sponsored awards.

  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively with community leaders, resource managers, researchers and other relevant partners.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others in varied environments and communities.

  • Advanced knowledge of extension project and program management.

  • Familiarity with Sea Grant.

  • Knowledge and experience with broad marine and coastal issues, particularly with relevance to Texas communities.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related field

  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Experience demonstrating expertise in the development and implementation of successful coastal or marine related extension programming.

  • Supervisory experience, particularly with remote teams.

    Responsibilities

  • Extension, Outreach & Education- Grow, oversee and coordinate the Texas Sea Grant extension, education and engagement portfolio. Set the strategic vision and long-term implementation plan for Texas Sea Grant outreach, extension and education initiatives, in collaboration with the Director, in consultation with stakeholders and responsive to Texas coastal and marine community needs. Advance integration of research with extension and promote community-engaged program development. Manage existing extension funding to maximize impacts and accomplishments and identify and secure funding to support and grow extension activities. Build and manage professional relationships across a broad range of institutions (public agencies, private industry, and non-government organizations), disciplines, and functions (e.g., research, extension, education and communication), working with staff and leaders at all levels of management.

  • Strategic Planning, Evaluation & Reporting- Lead strategic planning, implementation and evaluation for Texas Sea Grant College Program extension, education and engagement initiatives across all four of Texas Sea Grant’s focus areas: Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Resilient Communities and Economies, Healthy Coastal Ecosystems and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development. Lead data collection, synthesis, evaluation and reporting for annual and periodic program reports, requests for information and for special projects.

  • Leadership & Supervision- Supervise and direct the Texas Sea Grant extension team comprised of 7 coastal and marine resources county agents and 5-6 extension specialists based throughout the Texas coast. Mentor incoming Texas Sea Grant extension staff. Serve on the Texas Sea Grant Leadership Team contributing to the mission and initiatives of the Texas Sea Grant program and facilitating integration and communications for the Extension Team based at facilities throughout the Texas coast. Represent the Director in their absence as needed at conferences and National Sea Grant Network meetings. Participate in local, regional and national networks on marine and coastal extension planning and program development.

  • Funding/Sponsored Awards- Manage and grow the program’s external sponsored programs portfolio to ensure compliance with funding agency policies and regulations, timely and complete production of deliverables, and reporting. Seek external funding from various federal, state, local and private organizations to promote and implement extension programs.
