Important Guidelines: The Good Neighbor Authority is hiring one 8-month Resource Specialist based out of the Staff Office in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Applicant resumes must demonstrate how they meet the MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS listed in the job announcement .

Th is is non-classified, position s in Idaho State government and exempt from the provisions of Chapter 53, Title 67 of Idaho Code .

The Good Neighbor Authority (GNA)  

The GNA program enables the Forest Service to collaborate with the Idaho Department of Lands in achieving critical restoration goals and fostering resilient landscapes. Through innovative cooperative agreements, GNA bridges ownership boundaries to create lasting environmental solutions.

These roles provide hands-on experience and meaningful contributions to U.S. Forest Service Land and adjacent communities. 

The p osition last s 8 months, starting in April or May 2025 and ending as late as November or December 2025 , depending on the role and state needs .

Resource Specialist

Pay: The pay rate is $22.00 per hour.

Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to) :

  • Prepare and administer limited-scope resource management projects such as Direct Sales, forest management projects, pre-commercial thinning, mastication, road maintenance, and excavator piling. 

  • Prepare and administer timber sale contracts in the field to include establishing project boundaries, develop silvicultural prescriptions, determine logging systems, road layout, timber marking, and cruising.

  • Administers contracts to comply with management objectives , contract terms, and applicable laws.

  • Write up timber sale and resource management contracts.

  • Monitor and evaluate projects and work independently on specialized projects. 

  • Supervise and train seasonal personnel.

  • Create maps and update geodatabases using ArcPro .

  • E quipment maintenance, data entry, and road inventory.

  • May participate in fire suppression and prescribed burn programs.

    Minimum Qualifications :  

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) seasons previous experience in a resource related field OR possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in a resource related field OR two (2) seasons previous experience AND two (2) years of college education in a resource related field. 

  • Must have good knowledge of forest practices, GIS/GPS applications, aerial photos, maps, surveying equipment, timber marking and cruising equipment, data recording, and computer processing. 

  • Ability to read and write and communicate effectively. 

  • Ability to perform strenuous work for extended periods of time. 

  • Must have the ability to walk over rough and steep terrain for eight to twelve hours on a daily basis . 

  • Must be able to keep accurate and legible notes and project records. 

  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to learn how to operate a manual transmission vehicle may be required . 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 

  • May be required to pass a Work Capacity Test for wildland firefighting qualifications.
