Abbott Vascular Clonmel is the largest Abbott Manufacturing facility in Ireland focusing on both manufacturing and research and development of next generation vascular products.

Purpose Statement:

As the Component Engineer/Supplier Manufacturing Engineer, you will drive improvement and corrective actions in the quality of components sourced from outside suppliers. You will provide technical support in the selection of suppliers. You will support the development of acceptance criteria for materials, monitor supplier performance to drive corrective actions, and project focus specifically on cost and risk reductions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Establishing incoming inspection and test procedures and providing technical support to manufacturing to resolve material or supplier related issues.

  2. Developing new supply sources with purchasing team and qualifying components to specified parameters.

  3. Assessing potential new suppliers for technical and manufacturing capabilities. Providing technical support for the introduction of components from a new supplier.

  4. Managing projects to reduce material cost or reduce material supply risks.

  5. Working with Receiving Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.

  6. Leading on Process Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.

  7. Reviewing material specification releases and revisions as required.

  8. Investigating field failures related to supplier materials. Developing corrective action plan where necessary.

  9. Managing/participating in teams to conduct business risk assessments and developing action plans to reduce or eliminate risks.

Education and Job Skills:

  1. (Experience/Education) NQF level 7 in a relevant discipline and +2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  2. (Technical/Business Knowledge (Job skills)) Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices and procedures. General understanding of business unit/group function. Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately preform tasks can result in non-compliance with governmental regulations.

3.(Cognitive skills) Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has a broad knowledge of technical alternatives and an understanding of their impact on the systems environment.

  1. (Influence/Leadership) Cultivates a wide range of internal networks and beings to develop an extensive external network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks. May lead a project team of moderate scope. Provides guidance to less experience staff. Acts as a mentor to lower level individual contributors. Influence exerted at peer level and occasionally at first levels of management.

  2. (Planning/Organisation) Plans, organises, and prioritises own daily work routine to meet established schedule.

  3. (Decision Making/Impact) Exercises authority and judgment within defined limits to determine appropriate action. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in programme schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources.

  4. (Supervision Received) Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures
