Prestage Operations Maintenance Technician II in Clinton, North Carolina

The Operating Maintenance Technician II, under the direct supervision of the Operations & Maintenance Manager, and coordination with the Operations Maintenance Technician I will assist with operation and maintenance of plant equipment and systems in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally correct manner while assigned on shift.

The Operations Maintenance Technician II role completely supports the safe and reliable start-up, operation, shutdown, and maintenance of the facility's equipment and systems. Equipment includes, but is not limited to the steam turbines, generator, material handling, air compressors, water treatment equipment, transformers, motors, pumps, diesel generators and other auxiliary equipment. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and assists in the repair of mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and instrumentation.

  • Observe and maintain data for instrumentation located throughout the facility.

  • Monitor readings from instrumentation for variances and trending from prescribed operating standards and procedures.

  • Monitor plant equipment and systems for safe, reliable, and efficient performance within scope of responsibility.

  • Respond to plant variances to adjust and maintain proper operation of equipment and systems.

  • Supports writing and maintaining Operations Logs and other reports as required in a neat and professional manner.

  • Assist/perform adjustments and minor maintenance corrections on equipment found operating beyond the prescribed setting or an unsafe condition (oil, air, water, steam, natural gas, leaks).

  • Perform routine maintenance of basic plant equipment.

  • Provide information for and learn the CMMS system for entering work requests and other maintenance work requirements.

  • Support maintenance activities as required such as equipment testing.

  • Perform chemical tests for the plant water and steam systems to maintain proper quality and monitor neutralization and discharge water to assure compliance with standards and regulations.

  • Report and correct unsafe conditions or hazards.

  • Operate plant mobile equipment (carts, trucks, crane, forklift, etc.).

  • Inventory materials and maintain at specified levels and report to the OMT I for reorder as necessary.

  • Off-load bulk chemicals/gases used for plant operations.

  • Assist with securing and isolating equipment under LOTO for maintenance purposes.

  • Support local startup of all equipment.

  • Assist with/perform troubleshooting and repairs to correct the cause of any operational abnormality or problem.

  • Perform routine inspections and tests to ensure power block and balance of plant are operating at optimal levels.

  • Required to Participate in facility continued training program.

  • Assist in the development/review of all plant operations documentation (procedures, standing orders, system descriptions, operations training, etc.).

  • Willing and available to work scheduled and un-scheduled overtime as necessary to maintain plant readiness.

  • Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by Operations & Maintenance Manager.

  • Stops unsafe work.

  • Assists/monitors performance to permit limitations and stops operations that violate regulations.

  • Maintains high housekeeping standards.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of plant systems and the procedures related to operating systems

  • General knowledge and understanding of the relationship between systems and equipment

  • General knowledge of safety and environmental regulations

  • Demonstrates honesty and trustworthiness in work relationships

  • Demonstrates excellence in shared decision-making, continuous improvement, open communication, teamwork, and accountability

  • Demonstrates initiative: a self-starter, able to take direct supervision

  • High school diploma

  • One to three years of related practical experience in an industrial facility, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline preferred

  • Mechanical, instrumentation, and/or electrical equipment knowledge is required

  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, overtime, and be available for emergencies and outage maintenance

  • Good computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) Knowledge of personal computers and software applications (i.e., CMMS, etc.) is a plus

  • Must have good communications abilities (speaking, reading, writing, listening)

Physical Requirements

  • Working on feet for extensive periods

  • Requiring stair and ladder climbing

  • Routinely lifting 50 pounds

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and high voltage protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties

  • Work with hazardous materials may be required

Working Conditions

  • Position may require extended working hours with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, outages, work load and project conditions. Occasional call-outs to the Site may also occur.
