Job Title:Senior Lead Behavioral Health Technician

Job Summary:

TheSenior Lead Behavioral Health Technicianplays a key role in providing both leadership and direct client care in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. As part of the program leadership team, this position is responsible for supporting and training Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), ensuring implementation of policies and procedures, and maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.

  • Prior experience in behavioral health or related setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Health / Human Services.

Job Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Support:

  • Serve as part of the program leadership team, facilitating clear communication and ensuring implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Provide individual support, coaching, and routine supervision for assigned Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), including monthly clinical supervision and weekly coaching as needed.

  • Ensure new staff receive proper training and provide ongoing reinforcement and retraining as appropriate.

  • Conduct interviews for new Residential BHTs and assist in onboarding processes, including checklist completion and schedule management.

  • Monitor and edit the Proactive Spreadsheet and participate in program Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

  • Audit residential program activities for monthly reporting, RHIO updates, and incident follow-up.

Client Care & Therapeutic Interventions:

  1. Facilitate daily living activities, community meetings, and therapeutic engagement.

  2. Support treatment plans by implementing therapeutic interventions to enhance clients’ social, cognitive, and behavioral development.

  3. Provide role-modeling and education on personal care, household responsibilities, safety awareness, and daily living skills.

  4. Assist clients in addressing challenges, developing problem-solving strategies, and achieving treatment goals.

  5. Complete admissions and discharge documentation for residential programs and assist with client orientations.

  6. Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and supportive counseling to struggling clients as needed.

Medical & Administrative Tasks:

  1. Obtain and monitor client vital signs.

  2. Conduct urine screenings and observe clients post-medication administration.

  3. Obtain medication passing certification and complete bloodwork requisitions if certification requirements are met.

  4. Ensure clients attend scheduled groups, appointments, and medication times consistently.

  5. Assist with maintaining accurate client records, case management, and reporting.

  6. Follow infection control protocols, clean and prepare client rooms, and assist with light cleaning duties as required.

Daily Operations:

  1. Assist with grocery shopping, meal preparation, and budget management for clients based on treatment plans.

  2. Ensure safety and security of all clients, staff, and facilities.

  3. Actively participate in general, in-service, and supervisory meetings held by the agency.

  4. Complete shift checklists and perform other assigned duties to support program operations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Communication:Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage effectively with culturally diverse individuals, staff, and external partners.

  • Crisis Management:Strong ability to de-escalate situations, intervene in crises, and support clients struggling with behavioral health challenges.

  • Leadership:Ability to provide constructive feedback, train and mentor team members, and function as a solution-oriented leader.

  • Technical Skills:Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in maintaining client documentation and program-related spreadsheets.

  • Teamwork:Ability to foster a collaborative team environment while remaining flexible and cooperative.

  • Professionalism:Ability to accept constructive criticism, maintain composure in challenging situations, and ensure the highest standard of care.
