Summary:
At our Cleveland Service Center site, located in Cleveland, Ohio, we re-manufacture alternators for EVO, HDL and FDL locomotives. The Cleveland Center supplies alternators to locomotive manufacturing sites and repairs points across the globe. The site focuses on safe, efficient processes, while continuously driving out costs. The Welder A is responsible for performing operations that involve but not limited to MIG, stick, and plasma cutting, inspecting and repairing of components across multiple product lines in an effective and efficient manner for the organization. Employees are involved in 5S and lean projects. This role will report directly to the Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform complicated operations involving machining, MIG welding, stick welding, plasma cutting, dismantling, cleaning, inspecting and repairing of components across multiple product lines.
Perform operations such as repair, prep, upgrade, on Wabtec Alternators and their sub-components.
Must complete Wabtec/AWS welding certification in a timely manner.
Must complete vision acuity test.
Participate in all 5S activities.
Demonstrated work ethic with a focus on safety awareness and accident prevention.
Ability to meet aggressive delivery schedules and productivity goals and to make/implement recommendations that will both improve the repair process and quality.
Flexibility to perform all tasks required to repair Alternators and Generators.
All other duties assigned by supervision
Minimum Qualifications :
At least 1 year in manufacturing environment or equivalent experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Tow Motor experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work unsupervised.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts.
Knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and the ability to identify and correct problems.
Ability to troubleshoot and/or re-qualify equipment in the areas of responsibility.
A welding & brazing certification is not required to apply for the position, but certification must be obtained in the first six months after being placed in the role.
Understanding of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, maintenance manuals and instructions, parts lists and prints.
Physical Demands:
Employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Employee is regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
Employee is regularly required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses.
Position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
Work Environment:
- The employee will normally work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
