POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under limited supervision, the Research Assistant 3 will carry out the most complex and high-level research associated with a research study that tests a novel intervention aimed at enhancing outcomes for bereaved Black American caregivers who are grieving the loss of a patient who died in the US healthcare system and suffer from prolonged grief by the definition of the DSM - V. This study has a heavy emphasis on the exploratory nature of this phenomenon and will be utilizing the technique of conducting focus groups and structured interviews to understand this experience. The research assistant will work closely with the principal investigator to perform the tasks of this role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate major activities of the research project, including recruiting and scheduling participant interviews. May supervise students and technicians on research protocols and activities. (20%)
- Coordinate research activities related to data collection, inter-rater reliability, informed consent, and participant interviews. (20%)
- Carry out complex research protocols of a non-routine nature. Act as liaison to study personnel and set up focus groups and interview times. (15%)
- Work closely with the principal investigator. Provide input and recommendations to the principal investigator regarding significant developments in the research project. (10%)
May co-author research projects. Prepare abstracts to present study findings at scientific meetings. Co-author peer-reviewed journal articles based on the research study findings and assist with literature review. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
- Monitor and oversee all technical issues related to the study. (5%)
- Devise new protocols and techniques for research projects involving a high degree of skill and training. Utilize new and innovative research techniques such as developing and evaluating protocols for all electronic data collection methods. (5%)
- Evaluate adequacy of techniques; study and test new procedures and analyzes data. Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis (5%)
- May monitor the budget, track participant incentive purchases and distribution, and complete other duties as assigned. (5%)
- Devise new protocols and techniques for research projects involving a high degree of skill and training. Utilize new and innovative research techniques such as developing and evaluating protocols for all electronic data collection methods. (5%)
- Must maintain required certifications for protection of human subjects (CREC hours).
- Complete yearly COI statement.

QUALIFICAITONS
Education/Experience: Bachelor's of Science degree and 3 to 5 years of experience required.
REQUIRED SKILLS

Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
