The Sherwin-Williams Company R&D Technician in Cleveland, Ohio
This role will start in the GSC R&D Commercialization lab supporting the Architectural strategic efforts primarily focusing on paint making and testing. After 6-9 months or more, this role will transition to the Accurate Maintenance of Business team where they will support the product development and maintenance efforts for new and existing dispersion products designed for Architectural and Industrial product use. This role is pivotal in supporting product development through precise machine operation and accurate data collection. This role be based out of our BTC location and will move to our Brecksville Location. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Responsibilities Include: Supporting new product development pilot batch scale up, testing and data collection. As an R&D scale up lab technician, you will be accountable for conducting a diverse array of novel and existing product experiments. This role will work closely with chemists, engineers, and operators to manufacture and test R&D prototypes along with maintaining the lab space and equipment. Performing lab testing including quality and performance testing as well as aged stability testing. Support of routine experiments, recording results and learning basic knowledge of equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. Communication within the project team regarding project needs and status. Developing basic knowledge and understanding of product lines and raw materials. Executes and analyzes experiments and provides regular updates. Establishes timeline for assignments based on priorities with assistance from their supervisor. Identifies and resolves development hurdles. Writes basic reports, outlines procedures used, and results obtained. Recognizes problems and implements corrective actions to resolve the issue. Analyzes data, begins to draw conclusions, and make recommendations. Proficient in operating moderately complex lab instruments. Other duties as assigned. BASIC QUALIFICATION: * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: * Must have a High School Diploma KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: * Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. * Excellent organization and planning skills. * Ability to accurately track, record, and communicate lab results to project team * Basic math skills * Proven problem solving abilities * Knowledge of basic computer skills + basic Microsoft suite skills (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) * Proven problem-solving / decision-making ability. * 1 year of experience in a lab or production setting Preferred: * Previous pilot lab, commercialization and/or paint making experience. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
