Psychiatric Crisis Specialists are members of the Behavioral Health intake team responsible for the through-put of all behavioral health patients at Fairview Hospital. In this role, you will complete a variety of assessments, identify patient crisis needs, provide crisis intervention, and collaborate with other caregivers to provide the best care possible.

A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, from 10:00am-8:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Complete comprehensive mental status, psychosocial, risk, and chemical use assessments. Identifies patient crisis needs.

  • Participate in on-going assessment and care plan recommendations for patients with extended time awaiting dispositions.

  • Provide crisis intervention services using a therapeutic intervention, based on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care, based on current research and evidence-based practice.

  • Participate in the clinical instruction and supervision of Psychiatric Crisis Intervention Specialists who are seeking independent licensure and student interns shadowing or participating as an intern with the department to provide learning experiences for such students.

  • Act with integrity in placing Professional charge capture for crisis intervention services provided and documenting all requirements for such services provided.

  • Supply information to the medical team for consideration of a differential diagnosis.

  • Pursue ongoing education in behavioral health.

  • Recognize significant changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.

  • Navigates insurance verification and pre-certification processes for behavioral health care-outs.

  • Provide psychoeducation to family and significant others of patients, as well as other co-working caregivers about behavioral health, de-escalation, and/or other related topics to assist in the patient's current plan of care.

  • Involve the patient/family (or designee) and other current providers in developing a plan of care individualized to patient cultural, religious, and educational needs.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in the formulation of an individualized plan of care.

  • Process referred cases to appropriate disposition; which may include inpatient placement or assistance with community wrap around services for a successful discharge plan.

  • Assist in orientation of new Behavioral Health Intake team staff or other hospital personnel.

  • Communicates information regarding patient plan of care, current outcomes, and acuity at end of shift report.

  • Perform routine administrative office functions, as needed to facilitate casework processes.

  • Assist in orientation of new Behavioral Health Intake team staff or other hospital personnel.

  • Incorporate the use of informatics tools, principles, theories, and practices in the safe and effective delivery of care.

  • Work effectively to create and maintain a positive work environment.

  • Incorporate patient safety goals in daily practice.

  • Complete all documentation and records related to patient care.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • MA, MS, in a healthcare profession, or an MEd

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker [LISW], or Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory Designation [LISW-S], or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor [LPCC], or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Designation [LPCC-S].

  • Two years of work experience post Master's Degree.

  • LISW or LISW-S highly preferred
