Patient Service Associate - Emergency Department

Fairview Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is a Level II Trauma Center that specializes in general emergency/trauma, sepsis care and offers SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) services.

A caregiver in this position works 1:00PM - 9:30PM. No weekends or holidays are required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Welcome patients and families and provide information regarding processes.

  • Assist patients and families according to their needs during the initial arrival time.

  • Complete continuous rounding on patients and families in the department and waiting area throughout the shift.

  • Communicate observations and patient/family needs to nursing caregivers.

  • Communicate with patients and families and investigate concerns.

  • Resolve issues immediately within scope of position and communicate issues outside of scope to nursing caregivers.

  • Ensure patient safety and comfort at all times

  • Provide patients and families with comfort items, such as pillows, blankets and magazines.

  • Serve as a liaison between various departments.

  • Collect data and maintain a database of patient issues as directed by the Manager.

  • Empathize with patients and families undergoing physical, spiritual and emotional stress.

  • Synthesize and process large quantities of information rapidly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in communication, hospitality, psychology, sociology or a related field.

  • Three years of related experience reflecting a high level of conflict resolution in the customer relations industry and/or evidence of exceptional customer service in a current role for one year.

  • Demonstrates a calm demeanor.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing, walking and occasional lifting of items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
