Ohio Means Jobs Cleveland Cuyahoga County is sourcing for a Building & Grounds Technician for a Church in the Greater Cleveland area. Responsibilities: First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland is looking for someone to help in the maintenance and preventive care for the buildings and grounds of a historic church and childcare center on a 6 ½ acre campus located in Shaker Hts. The individual must actively participate in the overall security, preventative maintenance repairs and improvements of the overall campus including interior and exterior tasks during all seasons. This may include lawn care, tree and plant care, painting, snow and trash removal and basic building maintenance (light bulbs, gutters, clogged drains and toilets, etc.). Other tasks will include setting up and tearing down for rental and special events. Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems is a plus but is not a requirement. The work will require the use of ladders, power tools and equipment such as a wheelbarrow and two-wheeled hand carts. The applicant must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time and be comfortable going up and down stairs. Although this is not a public-facing position, you will be interacting with staff, children, parents, parishioners and contractors. A professional and courteous attitude is expected. The facility is smoke and drug free. Candidates are subject to pre-employment screening and must be able to pass a background check. A valid driver's license is a requirement. Skills and Knowledge: • Excellent verbal communication skills • Knowledge of basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry concepts • Good interpersonal skills • Ability to prioritize and multi-task Required Qualifications: • Possess a high school diploma or hold a GED certificate • Have the ability to adjust your schedule during the day as things change to address the most critical needs of the church • Be able to: • Lift 50 lbs. and be in good health • Climb and work on ladders • Work on hands and knees (with appropriate safety equipment) or overhead • Work outdoors in cold weather, including shoveling snow • Safely operate a scissor lift • Safely operate a chainsaw, riding lawnmowers and small tractors • Safely operate power tools • Must have a valid driver's license • Must pass a criminal background check • Be cooperative and show respect and courtesy to all church staff, church members and church visitors Physical and/or Environmental Demands: The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those encountered and/or necessary for the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
