POSITION OBJECTIVE  Working under general supervision, perform key shop mechanical and electronical locksmithing functions to include installation and preventative maintenance services on campus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.    Cut and issue keys and accurately maintain both manual and computerized records. Supply key audit information to all departments and individuals on an as-needed basis. (18%) 2.    Install new locks and Iocksets. Disassemble locks; repair and replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. (11%) 3.    Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical building security equipment and repair as needed. (11%) 4.    Perform emergency entry service on building and equipment lock-out situations. (11%) 5.    Coordinate large scale building rekeying. Survey building prints, update lock schedules. Interpret Master Keying Guide; use appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the university's master key system while meeting customer requests. Work with department personnel to design and customize system requirements. Supervise and/or work with contractor to ensure project completion. (10%) 6.    Replace and repair damaged keys, check and ensure all sets are brazed closed to maintain security. Fabricate lockset parts, keys, and security related items. Where necessary, manufacture replacement keys or parts for obsolete hardware. Perform repairs to safes or combination locks, or reset combinations as required. (9%) 7.    Transport equipment necessary to install and maintain locks, Iocksets and other security hardware in university properties. Inspect and evaluate assigned areas, perform preventative maintenance and repair mechanical devices. (9%) 8.    Coordinate with architects or contractors on security related projects and issues. Maintain and calibrate various shop machines. Make recommendations for installation and required modifications to existing equipment. (8%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS 1.    Provide normal locksmith services such as repair to originating keys to file cabinets, desks, parking gate equipment, and other miscellaneous locks. Perform opening methods such as imprisoning, picking and reading. Identify key blanks using various methods. (1%) 2.    Perform minor troubleshooting, services, and provide advice on university vehicle locks, including landscaping equipment. Provide similar services on elevator equipment and associated hardware. Repair as needed. (1%) 3.    Maintain technical skills through continuing education. (1%) 4.    Work with Safety Services on safety related to asbestos, security systems, safety regulations, etc. Maintain University safety padlock system. Assure confidentiality when working in sensitive situations. (1%) 5.    Perform other duties as assigned. (1%) CONTACTS Department: Continuous daily interaction with university department personnel to exchange information. University: Frequent contact with university administration, faculty and staff to maintain workflow within the scope of job responsibilities.  External: Regular contact with outside agencies and representatives to perform large work order requests. Occasional contact with personnel from the university's affiliates to discuss key systems or temporary lock changes. Students: Frequent contact with students to repair locks and door hardware.
