The Lead Unitary Systems Technology Engineer will join our Applied Compression Network of Excellence (NoE). At Trane Technologies, our Networks of Excellence are teams that develop advanced capabilities and technologies by leading research and development programs, leveraging internal competencies, and managing external partnerships.

The Technology & System Evaluation Group will develop and maintain compression technology strategic roadmaps and support the Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU’s) system engineering teams in deploying cutting edge technology. The ideal candidate will have high technical expertise in vapor compression system theory/technology and possess the ability to understand and assess new technologies quickly, selecting concepts for deeper exploration through modelling and physical testing. This activity will include key partnerships with internal and external cross-functional groups.

Where is the work:

This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite a week) and will be based out of our La Crosse, WI or Clarksville, TN office location.

What you will do:

  • Identify, propose and validate new technologies across vapor compression platforms

  • Explore new non-vapor compression cooling/heating technologies and there applicability to Trane Technologies products.

  • Conduct analysis to evaluate and screen technology candidates for further development.

  • Lead regular enterprise-wide technology forums and Develop technology roadmaps in collaboration with Strategic Business Units.

  • Develop application guidelines for new technology implementation into SBU’s system teams. Support product problem solving efforts as required.

  • Create roadmap of future capabilities leading to fully integrated system/product digital models, based on multi-physics as well as data patterns, and full virtual labs to reduce product testing.

  • Manage full value chain of external compression related projects.

  • Work closely with Strategic Business Units (SBUs) Engineering & Technology Teams to assure the right strategies are executed (ie developing and leveraging partnerships, homegrown technologies, etc.) and the right tools/processes are used for products to meet customer expectations and other technical requirements.

  • Leadership experience to leverage external partners including but not limited to universities, government research entities, other companies and consortia, etc.

  • Build capability in the compression systems space and transfer capability to SBU’s.

  • Build and maintain key relationships with academia and industry partners.

What you will bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience in global companies in where advanced technologies have been successfully deployed supporting new product development. HVACR industry and unitary product experience is preferred.

  • Technical degree, Ph.D. or Masters in Engineering from a leading academic institution, plus business education; professionally active in societies, professional associations and networks.

  • Strong understanding and application of modelling and simulation of compression devices and related systems.

  • Solid understanding of the vapor compression cycles and component performance characteristics across compression platforms.

  • Experience in selecting vapor compression system components for prototype demonstration.

  • Demonstrated competency in optimization of compressors and their systems.

  • Demonstration of developing high level control strategies for vapor compression systems.

  • Ability to formulate a problem, efficiently execute an analysis and clearly summarize conclusions and recommendations.

  • Ability create validation plans and perform feasibility studies for new technology.

  • Strong skills in writing reports and communicating to senior leadership through a presentation format.

  • Ability to interact and communicate with others in a collegial manner.

  • Experience in a Corporate Technology Center with a proven track record of technology deployment across the enterprise).

  • Ability to travel domestic and internationally up to 20% of the time.

Compensation:

Base Salary: $120,000 - $159,000

Additional Compensation: Total compensation for this role also will include an incentive plan.
