Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor

Are you an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator with a passion for training and developing others? We’re looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor to design and implement innovative training programs that enhance the technical and operational skills of our equipment operators. Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration:

  • Partner with internal teams, clients, and subject matter experts to assess and address training needs specific to heavy equipment operations.

  • Determine and develop appropriate content and methods for training, including hands-on, on-the-job, and safety procedures.

  • Coordinate with operations teams to set clear requirements for equipment operator qualifications and certifications.

  • Represent the organization in external training forums related to heavy equipment operation.

Training Content Development:

  • Leverage your extensive experience in heavy equipment operations to create comprehensive and role-specific training materials.

  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and tailor training programs to improve operator performance and safety.

  • Ensure training materials are aligned with industry standards and updated to reflect current equipment and regulatory changes.

Training Content Delivery:

  • Deliver hands-on and classroom training, focusing on enhancing operators' decision-making abilities, especially in high-risk situations.

  • Facilitate instructor-led training sessions on complex topics, including advanced techniques and emergency procedures.

  • Continuously identify and integrate new content into training programs based on evolving needs.

Program Management:

  • Oversee the heavy equipment training program from development to delivery, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Monitor and evaluate training program effectiveness, making adjustments to meet regulatory requirements and operational objectives.

Compliance:

Ensure all training programs meet or exceed regulatory and safety requirements, adjusting as necessary in response to regulatory changes.

Learning Evaluation:

  • Use established metrics to measure training effectiveness, and continuously refine content and delivery methods to ensure the best outcomes.

  • Develop and maintain assessment tools to evaluate operator performance and drive continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional qualifications or certifications in heavy equipment operations are a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in heavy equipment operations, with at least 2 years in a training role. Experience in utility operations and heavy-duty equipment environments is preferred.

Certifications: Heavy equipment operator license and relevant qualifications/certifications are preferred.

Key Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.

  • Intermediate knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.

  • Project management skills with experience in training program development.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

  • Adaptability to changing environments and regulatory requirements.

Physical & Cognitive Demands:

  • Valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving practices.

  • Ability to work long hours, variable schedules, and perform work during severe inclement weather.

  • Occasional overnight travel and frequent driving within the service territory.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 10 lbs. and navigate unstable surfaces.

Compensation Range:

$87,225.00 - $145,375.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
