General Summary
We have a great opportunity available for a Senior Project Engineer to join Michelman at our headquarters in Cincinnati Ohio. You will evaluate, plan, and implement capital and expense projects that support the Americas facilities. This includes developing engineering specifications and capital estimates and hands-on responsibility for project installations, equipment start-up and commissioning. Your responsibilities will also include implementing process, safety and cost savings improvements for existing equipment, facilities and manufacturing processes. You will also have opportunities to work with Process Engineers, Production and Quality Control to improve the consistency, quality and efficiency of new and existing products.
Primary Responsibilities
Support the regional engineering manager with project prioritization and budgeting process
Develop project scope and deliverables based on project proposals and requests
Ensure project deliverables are aligned with business needs
Estimate project cost and schedule based on experience and utilizes external resources as necessary
Work with the broader regional team, including Operations, Supply Chain, Process Engineering and Finance to develop project justifications
Develop Capital Expenditure Requests for project approval
Follow Michelman’s Management of Change Process
Coordinate both engineering and construction contractors to deliver project from design through start up
Accountable for detailed engineering design for projects
Manage project procurement, including writing and issuing specifications, scopes of work, conducting bid meetings and bid analysis
Engage with project stakeholders for feedback and review throughout the project process
Ensure the project team understands their role and deliverables to ensure safe and successful project start up and transition into permanent operations
Responsible for managing project cost and schedule throughout the project cycle and providing updates as necessary to the project stake holders
Forecast project cost and schedule
Accountable for ensuring the safe commissioning and start-up of new assets through active engagement with Operations, Maintenance and Process Engineering teams
Accountable for delivering turnover packages to the Operations, Maintenance and Process Engineering teams to ensure all required documentation is supplied for future operation and maintenance needs at project closure
Support safety initiatives (PHAs, Contractor Safety Programs, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, LOTO, etc.)
Support Process Engineering efforts to optimize plant operations through capital and expense projects to improve safety, quality, and productivity while lowering cost
Mentor and support other project engineers and co-ops working in the project engineering department
Any other duties as assigned by management

Must be able to climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 50lbs
Must be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time
Must be able to accommodate working nights or weekends as the situation dictates

Technically competent, detail oriented, and have strong project management skills
Ability to build strong working relationships and function effectively at all levels of the organization

Experience leading and/or managing others effectively
Strong ability to identify problems, drive to root cause and implement preventative measures
Detailed knowledge of chemical processing equipment including pumps, mixers, valves, heat exchangers, boilers, cooling towers, and compressors
Experience with process instrumentation and control systems
Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
Ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion
High levels of self-motivation, initiative, and interpersonal skill
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Education and Experience
7+ years of project engineering/project management experience is preferred
Bachelor of Science in chemical or mechanical engineer is preferred
Chemical manufacturing or similar background preferred
