Job Overview The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Research Assistant in Dr. Smulian and Dr. Cushions' lab at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The faculty of the Division of Infectious Diseases is among the national leaders in basic science research in infectious diseases, the care of patients with HIV infections, tuberculosis and global health clinical care, education and research. The Research Assistant will assist with the coordination of laboratory projects or research studies in a particular discipline, makes independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. Essential Functions Perform experiments to assist lab members with various funded research projects utilizing standard molecular biology techniques including cell culture, PCR, flow cytometry, immunoassays, and microscopy. Interpret data by performing statistical and graphical analysis of data and reporting results. May assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry. Perform general lab duties including stocking solutions, cleaning and maintaining equipment and lab benches and maintenance of lab inventory. Required Education Bachelor's Degree. Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
