Job Overview: The Pharmacy Automation Specialist is a healthcare professional who plays an integral role in the pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, they are responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the pharmacy automated medication distribution systems. Provides ongoing monitoring of processes surrounding the automated distribution of medications and evaluates compliance with procedures and integrity of equipment. Achieves and maintains an excellent working relationships with pharmacy leadership, pharmacy staff, and other hospital departments. Job Requirements: High School Degree or GED Active National Pharm Tech Cert (CPhT) is required Approved cert is through Pharm Tech Cert Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Cert by the National Healthcareer Association Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician Must have general knowledge of medications and pharmacy automated systems Will be trained to compound hazardous and/or non-hazardous sterile products, as need arises Up to 1 year experience Technical Pharmacy Experience must be as a Pharmacy Technician I Job Responsibilities: Develops and maintains an understanding the systems used in the Pharmacy Department including automated dispensing cabinets, codonics, CII Safe, medication packaging systems, Swisslog Automation, and/or IV automation. Leverages system functionality to maximize operational workflows and safe medication dispensing. Follows department standards of work, policies, and workflows. Maintains the pharmacy automation and performs daily maintenance and reporting tasks to manage and optimize the pharmacy automation systems including medication availability (drug shortages), inventory optimization, formulary maintenance, controlled substance discrepancies/losses, and user maintenance. Coordinates new implementations, upgrades, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for pharmacy automated dispensing systems. Provides assistance and is available for automation downtime support. Initiates downtime procedures when appropriate. Acts as a subject matter expert, ensuring that efficient and quality pharmacy services are provided to patients. Intervenes in challenging situations and works to resolve any escalated issues, when necessary. Assists in developing, conducting, and monitoring training for the pharmacy automated systems (includes inter and intra-department education). Trains, orients, and mentors new staff members to facilitate attainment of required job skills and knowledge. Provides input in the hiring, promotion, and performance evaluation of Inpatient Pharmacy Technician. Consults with and updates supervisor, as needed regarding any team issues, task difficulties, complex problems to ensure appropriate resolution, and recognizes team members who are going up and beyond. Works with supervisor/manager on process and workflow improvement. Ensures that the Inpatient pharmacy delivers quality services in accordance with pharmacy policy and standards of work and the laws, rules, and regulations that govern the distribution drugs. Identifies patient safety issues related to medication use and works on resolutions. Builds a positive relationship with customers by soliciting questions, concerns, and opinions and ensuring that they are receiving pharmacy automation related information that they desire and need. Acts as liaison between the vendor and the pharmacy for software and hardware related issues. Effectively communicates automation related information to Pharmacy Leadership and Inpatient Pharmacy Staff. Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of compounded sterile products, including CHEMOTHERAPY AND HAZARDOUS medications while following current guidelines and policy (USP 797, USP 800, ASHP, NIOSH and Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations) and department proced
