As the Managing Attorney, you will oversee transformative projects like Beyond Guilt, which supports incarcerated individuals who have been over-sentenced, and Second Chance, which provides crucial legal services to reduce reentry barriers, including clinics focused on criminal record sealing and expungement for people who qualify. You will coordinate client services, actively participate in organizational efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of client services and operations, collaborate in development and fundraising efforts, and foster relationships with key stakeholders including the private bar, community organizations, public officials, and funders. In addition, the Managing Attorney will:

  • Collaborate with the CEO in setting OJPC broad strategies, objectives, and metrics.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Manage the legal program, including hiring, training, professional development, and supervising attorneys.
  • Plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve employee problems.
  • Coordinate with CEO, Litigation Director and project directors on litigation opportunities and strategies.
  • Develop pro-bono opportunities and engage in community education and outreach.
  • Partner with the Policy Director on reform efforts and partnerships.
  • Serve as the summer intern coordinator, including recruitment and orientation.
  • Provide direct representation and limited legal advice to OJPC clients.
  • Participate in development and fundraising initiatives including participation in donor cultivation and fundraising efforts.
  • Work with the Director of Finance and Administration on HR issues.
  • Participate in board meetings and committee work.
  • Assist in marketing plan development and implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor and admission to the OH or other state bar.
  • 5 years of post-graduate legal experience (preferred).
  • Experience managing attorneys and supervising staff.
  • Non-profit legal experience (preferred).
  • Familiarity with federal civil rights law and criminal law preferred.
  • Commitment to client-centered legal practice.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for working well with diverse clients, communities, and colleagues, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state of Ohio as needed.
