Job Summary: The Legislative Aide/Committee Staffer provides essential support for all legislative activities and advancing the Senator's policy objectives. This position demands a profound understanding of legislative processes and the ability to interpret complex policy issues. The Legislative Aide/Committee Staffer will manage policy research, draft legislative content, and monitor legislative initiatives, all while ensuring that the Senator is fully prepared to make informed legislative decisions. This role requires a high degree of analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a broad network of stakeholders. Additionally, Legislative Aide/Committee Staffer provides specialized support to the Senator in his capacity as Chair of the Committee. This role is focal in advancing legislative priorities within the committee and other areas as needed. The Legislative Aide/Committee Staffer assists in preparing materials for committee meetings, tracking relevant legislation, and attending committee meetings to take detailed notes and provide updates. Additionally, the role involves outreach to constituents and stakeholders to ensure the Senator is thoroughly informed and prepared for all committee activities. Core Responsibilities: Legislative Research and Analysis: - Conduct in-depth research on legislative issues, emerging policy trends, and proposed bills, identifying key insights and potential impacts. - Analyze complex policy information and synthesize it into concise policy briefs, legislative summaries, and other documents to support the Senator's legislative agenda. Drafting and Preparing Legislative Content: - Draft a variety of documents, including issue briefs, memos, speeches, and policy reports, to articulate the Senators stance and legislative priorities. - Assist with drafting and reviewing legislative text, amendments, and policy proposals to advance the Senators objectives effectively. Monitoring and Reporting on Legislative Activity: - Track and report on legislative developments, including committee work, floor actions, and local and federal policy updates, to keep the Senator and senior staff informed of key movements. - Prepare detailed reports on legislative outcomes and provide actionable recommendations to guide the Senators strategic responses. Bill Tracking and Legislative Coordination: - Track the progress of bills pertinent to the Senator's legislative interests and coordinate efforts with relevant committees, governmental agencies, and stakeholders to advance key legislative initiatives. - Draft and maintain legislative summaries, position papers, and other supporting documents. Committee Support: - Prepare agendas, briefing documents, and supporting materials for committee meetings. - Assist in scheduling and organizing committee meetings, hearings, and related events. - Attend committee sessions to take comprehensive notes, summarize discussions, and highlight action items for follow-up. - Coordinate with committee members, legislative staff, and external experts to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. Stakeholder Engagement Related to Committee Work: - Engage with constituents, business leaders, community organizations, and other stakeholders to gather input and feedback on committee initiatives. - Serve as a liaison between the Senator's office and external parties, ensuring timely and effective communication regarding committee activities. Administrative Duties for Committee Operations: - Manage committee documentation, including meeting minutes, legislative records, and correspondence. - Assist in drafting letters, memos, and official communications on behalf of the Senator for committee matters. - Ensure all committee operations comply with legislative rules, protocols, and ethical standards. Collaboration and Support: - Provide support t other committees or special projects as needed, collaborating with legislative staff to ensure continuity. - Assist in communicating committee developments and achievements in coordination with the Senators communications staff. Experience: - Previous experience in legislative research, committee staffing, or public policy analysis. - Familiarity with economic development issues, policies, and legislative processes. Education: - Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Law, or a related field. Skills and Abilities: Research and Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to conduct thorough research and analyze complex policy and legislative issues.
