Job Description:

He/she will be missioned to lead advocacy activities to bring innovation to patients by understanding and responding to their needs for their quality of life, learning, medical solutions in BMS’s prioritized therapeutic areas. Advocacy is also aimed at positioning BMS as a reliable partner to those patients, their families, healthcare communities and society, earning recognition as a patient centric bio-pharmaceutical company. He/she will be a seasoned external affair professional, with strong strategy and execution ability, caring to vulnerable people, proficiency in Japanese and English, and people skills.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Strategize a patient advocacy program beginning with mapping out (and refreshing) partnering organizations, building relationship, seizing patient needs, then tailor-making impactful projects for identified PAGs, with a collaboration with business units, medical affairs team, and R&D.

  • Fill gaps in disease/treatment awareness among patients, their families and society as well as to empower patients for their QOL. Also, support PPI and BMS’s incorporating insights of patients into its planning and operation of clinical trial, medical affairs, commercial and communications.

  • Act as a reliable and proactive focal point of PAGs and execute collaborative projects to amplify voices of patients for realizing advocacy goals.

  • Set goals of each advocacy project, manage and present progress and outcomes to senior leaders to gain their feedback to refine the projects.

  • Leverage advocacy projects and collaboration with PAGs for profiling BMS as a champion of patients to stakeholders.

  • Work closely with global patient advocacy teams on the execution of global or trans-regional assignments.

  • Facilitate educational initiatives for BMSKK colleagues, inviting patient(s) at the timing of global campaigns and major internal events.

  • Plan and properly manage corporate giving to allocate the fund to most impactful areas as well as support CSR programs.

  • Assist and collaborate with other Corporate Affairs team members on the planning and execution of engagement events.

  • Contribute to enterprise communications concerning disease and patients as Japan activities.

  • Manage contractor(s) and external partners if needed. Handle other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Strong passion, integrity and resilience for patient advocacy

  • Experience in the external affairs arena in an agency, corporation, or NGO in the pharmaceutical industry on the local and international level.

  • Basic knowledge of patient access issues and methods.

  • Knowledge of the pharma industry in Japan, with an understanding of Compliance and Regulatory that impact advocacy and communications

  • Strong organizational agility: ability to work cross-functionally across a growing and matrix organization, and engaging with multiple internal stakeholders

  • Ability to work in a global and culturally diverse environments

  • Ability to work and interact with senior internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent tactical execution skills, ability to multitask

  • High level of English / Japanese communication
