As part of the International Wholesale Operations Group, this role is responsible for executing the strategy and providing senior level oversight on the Tokyo day-to-day activities, the role will support the local Markets Operations business (e.g. cash and derivatives products) and the Banking activities. (e.g. Trade Finance Services and Standby Letters of Credit; Foreign Exchange Yen Clearing System and Correspondent Banking Operations). As such, all service attributes such as processing efficiency, processing quality, service continuity, customer care, and processing timeliness are under the direct accountability of this position.
The CIB Client Service function is being created to provide strategic clients with a seamless, proactive service model that enhances client experience at every stage of their lifecycle journey. The model is intended to leverage technology and personalised support to ensure efficiency, compliance, and a tailored end-to-end trade and trade lifecycle and client onboarding management support. Key elements include a dedicated client service officer for proactive engagement, streamlined onboarding processes, governance model and AML tools, and continuous monitoring to adapt services to meet evolving client needs.
Primary Responsibilities (Note: In addition to these responsibilities, employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required)
Leadership
Provide leadership to the Japan Wholesale Operations team and support the Japan/Regional COO’s and business lines.
Be the senior contact for Japan Wholesale Operations employees, providing guidance and direction, and acting as an escalation point.
Create a culture where employees are challenged, engaged, responsible and drive the change agenda.
Be an active ambassador for the business and foster a culture of risk management by leading the team and business with a balanced perspective.
Proactively build and drive cooperative relationships within the Wholesale Operations teams and across the enterprise with relevant partners including Business, Risk, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Finance, etc.
Strategy
Help shape the regional strategy in conjunction with APAC Head of Wholesale Operations and Japan/Regional COO’s, provide leadership; drive change and adoption of the strategy in partnership with leaders.
Lead the regional team and develop strategy for the Client Service to ensure efficient and proper use of human capital to support the operational needs, address functional & financial effectiveness, increase operational efficiency, and drive operational consistency.
Client Service
Working with the LOB and International and Global operations teams, and be responsible for creating a CIB Client Service for the APAC region to better support our APAC strategic clients;
Explore and utilise technology to support the customer needs and help shape the teams to ensure customer experience goals in the region are executed.
Proactively manage the client experience through the use of metrics and arrange/attend client meetings to discuss performance.
Talent Management
Responsible for the Human Capital processes such as rewards and employee engagement in partnership with Regional Human Resources and the APAC Wholesale Operations Leader.
Actively participate in talent management, DE&I initiatives and ensure the implementation of the programmes within International Wholesale Operations
Undertake Compensation planning and delivery.
Risk Management
Work closely with Risk teams to enhance regulatory awareness and ensure reputational integrity of Wells Fargo. Provide regional oversight of the business to drive growth and support the development and implementation of appropriate controls.
Accountable for ensuring risk and issues in Japan Wholesale Operations are tracked, escalated, and followed up.
Support of APAC regulatory exams and / or audits - Drive remediation and ensure platform tracking of APAC audit and self-identified Corrective Actions within prescribed delivery timelines in coordination with Issue Owners & Independent Risk Management, Regional Management, Business Control executives and LOBs
Partner with Compliance, legal and risk partners to ensure the businesses remain compliant with regulatory standards of conduct and on the remediation of critical issues.
Required Qualifications:
4+ years of Capital Markets industry experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
2+ years of leadership experience
Desired Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English.
Strong Leadership skills and international mindset.
Excellent understanding of CIB Client Service
An excellent product knowledge across the CIB Markets products lifecycle including: Fixed Income, FX, Futures and Options, and OTC Derivatives including and a good understanding of the Banking products such as Trade Finance Services and Correspondent Banking and the FX Yen Clearing System.
Previous experience of managing teams within Market / Banking Operations.
The ability to be hands on across all the teams to provide guidance and assistance with problem solving.
Experience of working with project stakeholders to deliver change.
Strong Analytical skills. Needs the ability to digest large sets of information.
Good understanding of the market wide infrastructure and settlement systems.
Ability to work in a highly pressurized environment.
Ability to effectively interact with regulators and have a good working knowledge of Japan Banking regulations.
Proven track record of process improvements and project delivery.
Outstanding customer service skills, be deadline oriented.
Acting with a global mindset, experience of working with colleagues across multiple locations.
