SPECIAL MEO DPW / WPC Position Title: Special Motor Equipment Operator Department: DPW Water Pollution Control (Collection Systems) Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Full-Time, UFCW Laborer Licenses/Certifications: MA CDL-B (CDL-A desired) with Air Brakes & Tanker Endorsements, Grade II (2) Collection System License or must obtain within (1) year of hire, Massachusetts Hoisting License for Catch Basin Clean Truck Wastewater License or obtain within Probationary Period. SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Wastewater Department is hiring a Special Motor Equipment Operator who has the primary responsibility of operating and maintaining the Collection Systems, operates and maintains the special equipment such as dump trucks, sewer jet rodder/vactor truck, rod truck, TV camera equipment and vehicle, hydraulic winch truck, power bucket machine, and other sewer cleaning/repairing equipment and vehicles. Supervise assigned personnel and engage in maintenance and repair of the Collection Systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE Inspects, cleans, and repairs manholes, pipes, sewer lines, catch basins and all connected structures. Supervise assigned personnel in providing quality work assignments. Observes and instructs safe work habits. Uses power equipment and vehicles. Maintains written work and preventative maintenance work schedules. Gives both oral and written reports on work assignments as needed. Performs work from work orders, inputs work into palm pilots and/or other information recording devices as required. Downloads information into data collection devices. Originates and performs work orders and preventative maintenance/repair on the Collection System tools, equipment and vehicles. Operates, maintains, and repairs jet rodder/vactor truck, rod truck, TV camera, catch basin cleaner, hydraulic winch, bucket machine, and other sewer cleaning/repair equipment and vehicles. Works in sewers and in confined spaces. Performs lateral house connection cleaning and camera inspections. Meets with the public and informs them of ongoing activities in regard to work assignments. Other duties as assigned per the full job description. QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: High School Diploma or Equivalent Massachusetts CDL - B (CDL - A Desired) with air brakes and tanker endorsements Grade II (2) Collection System License or must obtain within (1) year of hire. Working knowledge of Sewer cleaning vehicles, equipment, and tools. Wastewater Operator\'s License desirable. Massachusetts Hoisting License for Catch Basin Cleaner or obtain within (6) months of hire, must obtain prior to completing probationary period.
