Job Description Summary

The Therapy Manager, Abilitylab will oversee an interdisciplinary team of licensed and non-licensed professional therapy staff within an Abilitylab. Collaborates with the medicine, nursing, researchers and scientists to lead patient care and clinical outcomes while achieving program fiscal targets and adhering to regulatory requirements and best practice objectives.

Job Description

The Therapy Manager, Abilitylab:

  • Manages an interdisciplinary team of licensed and non-licensed professional therapy staff including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and rehabilitation technicians, integrating therapeutic evaluation and treatment plans.
  • Hires, mentors, counsels, and evaluates performance of allied health staff.
  • Develops therapy staff who hold specialization in therapeutic intervention based upon: knowledge, training, experience, advanced clinical certifications, research, science, evidence based practices and clinical guidelines.
  • Facilitates collaboration with all disciplines in particular: Innovation Center Primary Therapists, Researchers, Scientists, Medicine, Nursing, etc.
  • Oversees the evaluation, consultation, specialized treatment and dosing intensity for the specialty lab to provide for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participates as subject matter expert in knowledge transfer and adoption of practices developed within the Abilitylab.
  • Collaborates with the Therapy Director, Abilitylabs to lead achievement of the clinical, financial, safety, satisfaction, outcome measures, environment of care needs, access to inpatient care, and adherence to regulatory requirements as well as drive the integration of clinical and research goals.
  • Ensures the documentation of patient care activities within program area to track and report patient care and adherence to financial and regulatory targets.
  • Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, program and organizational performance utilizing QI and other mechanisms to facilitate resolution of quality issues and/or the promotion of new quality initiatives.
  • Drives ongoing evaluation and improvement of clinical protocols and ensures staff members have the necessary training and tools for compliance.
  • Teaches in the SRAlab Academy internal and external courses as well as acts as a consultant at the SRALab offsite centers and SRAlab Alliances as appropriate.
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Therapy Director, Abilitylabs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Degree from an accredited program to obtain licensure in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current licensure or registration in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Minimum 7 years of clinical experience.
  • Research experience preferred.
  • Quantitative and analytical ability required to evaluate existing programs, promote research activities, and develop new programs.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership and communicate effectively with patients, patient families, referring parties and other SRAlab system-wide staff.
  • Working knowledge of information technology tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite, Cerner, electronic medical records, and appropriate web-based applications and services.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
