ABM Industries Tarmac Transportation Driver in Chicago, Illinois

Overview

The Tarmac Transportation Drivers transport premium customers from gate to gate on the tarmac. The ideal Driver will require a unique variety of skills. Paying close attention to detail is critical to providing the extremely high level of service that United is aiming to deliver to these very important customers. The main responsibility of the Driver is to safely pick up each customer and transport them to their connection in a professional manner. The Driver must be physically capable of walking up and down stairs from the tarmac throughout the day. Customer service is a vital part of every interaction and includes showing attention to customers in a prompt, friendly and courteous manner. Driver should have top customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate and engage with premium customers.

Driver Responsibilities:

  • Drive a luxury vehicle (Jaguar) and escort customers between the car and the jet bridge and gate in a

  • professional manner.

  • Safety, world class customer service, and communication skills are essential in this role.

  • Must have verbal and written fluency of the English language.

  • Will be required to carry and use the following items for the vehicle:

  • Mobile communication device (i.e., cellular telephone)

  • Flashlight

  • Large umbrella (large golf type)

  • Hi – Vis safety vest (for Driver to wear)

  • Handheld vacuum

  • Will be required to be reasonably well groomed and in complete uniform, which includes ABM identification on uniform, a photo ID badge in accordance with all airport authority regulations, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Provide premier customer service and have knowledge about the luxury (Jaguar) vehicle.

  • Fill out daily logs. Logs will be kept in binders that will stay in the vehicle throughout the day and will be turned in to United Airlines at the end of the last shift.

  • Adhere to tarmac driving guidelines which will be provided by United as well as the Port Authority of NY & NJ. Specifically, there is no talking or texting on any communication device while operating a vehicle.

  • Complete a daily interior cleaning of each vehicle including wiping down the dashboard and vacuuming the seats/floors.

  • Arrange for exterior vehicle washes.

  • Fuel the vehicle as necessary and required.

  • Escort a customer to or from the vehicle as requested by United.

  • Ensure that customers are always holding the handrail when ascending or descending stairs.

  • Ensure Accident Reporting is handled immediately and correctly.

  • Escort customers between the car and the jet bridge and gate in a professional manner.

Minimum Requirements:

  • General aviation knowledge is preferred.

  • Previous experience working in an aviation environment, desired.

  • Previous experience with airport operations/airline industry is a big plus.

  • Working knowledge of airport safety procedures.

  • Ability to operate/drive vehicles on the airport tarmac is required.

  • Must successfully complete an airport tarmac/ramp driving training program.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills.

  • Maintain a clean driving record and be able to navigate a luxury class vehicle.

  • Driver shall possess an entrepreneurial spirit, as logistical changes are likely to occur throughout the day and the driver will need to make decisions with no guidance.

  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record is required.

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Resourceful team player with a positive outlook and approachable demeanor.

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

  • Must successfully complete the Port Authority badging process.

  • Must successfully complete the process to obtain a U.S. Customs Seal for access to CBP security areas.
