Job Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on Cardiovascular research, with a focus on understanding the molecular (fundamental) mechanisms underlying heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias (such as ventricular tachycardia).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute and facilitate advanced technical/scientific research projects.
  • Designs, develops and tests experimental protocols for research (including empirical protocols, computational, statistical methods, etc.).
  • Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.
  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.
  • May present work at scientific meetings and provide peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
  • The individual in this role will be involved in all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and analysis of research projects focused on population variation in immune responses.
  • Focus on the development and optimization of a highly novel, non-viral gene delivery approach to facilitate cardiac gene delivery in the atria and ventricles.
  • Identify new molecular targets for gene-based treatment of atrial fibrillation.
  • Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in designing new experiments.
  • Harvesting, analyzing, and interpreting data; drafting manuscripts.
  • Presenting data at research conferences.
  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.
  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
  • Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctoral degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of intact heart electrophysiology.
  • Understand the molecular mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation.
  • Previous bench lab experience.
