Description We are offering a contract-to-hire opportunity for a meticulous Staff Accountant in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois. The role entails a wide range of responsibilities, from maintaining the general ledger to assisting with audits and budgeting processes. As part of the Accounting Department, the successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Controller, handling a variety of duties in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements on a monthly and quarterly basis

• Handle customer payment transactions and record daily deposits

• Record bi-weekly payroll journals on the general ledger

• Support the Controller in the preparation of yearly work papers for audit review

• Contribute to the implementation of a budgeting process

• Prepare yearly annual reports for all entities for the secretary of state

• Assist in the preparation of monthly Sales Tax Report

• Support Controller in yearly audit review preparation

• Enter invoices, prepare checks, and reconcile vendor accounts when necessary

• Assist with projects as needed

Skills:

• Analyze Financial Statements

• Post Journal Entries

• Prepare Journal Entries

• Proficiency in MS Excel and QuickBooks Enterprise

• Handle Cash Deposits and Daily Bank Deposits

• Maintain the General Ledger

• Understand and manage Sales Tax Requirements • Proficiency in analyzing financial statements for accuracy and compliance with regulations

• Demonstrated ability to prepare and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded

• Familiarity with MS Excel for data management and financial analysis

• Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise for accounting processes and operations

• Knowledge in handling cash deposits and daily bank deposits for operational efficiency

• Understanding of general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process

• Proficiency in managing and recording sales tax

• Ability to maintain and manage all aspects of the daily accounting function

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
