Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Professional Planner to join its collaborative Natural Resources team in either Chicago, IL or Cleveland, OH. This individual will serve a key function in leading the assessment of sites for land use planning issues, preparing testimony for municipal use variance applications, preparing environmental impact statements and environmental assessments, and performing other tasks related to land use planning and permitting for projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner cross-functionally with top industry leadership on a variety of land development and infrastructure projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the natural resource planning, design, assessment and natural resource permitting of land development and infrastructure projects;

  • Participate in the identification and pursuit of new clients, developing additional work within existing projects and attending business development meetings with new and existing clients;

  • Perform and manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Monitor budgets, schedules, and project timelines;

  • Prepare environmental assessments, impact statements, planning assessments, zoning analyses and determine the natural resource permitting feasibility of projects;

  • Review municipal regulations and determine variance assessments for development;

  • Prepare Federal, State and local land use permit applications;

  • Perform GIS-based assessments of project sites; and

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Environmental Science, or related discipline. Master’s degree in Environmental Science/Ecology/Planning preferred;

  • Professional Planner license in corresponding state;

  • 10+ years of related work experience in corresponding state;

  • American Institute of Certified Planners membership;

  • Knowledgeable in corresponding state’s land use regulations

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ArcGIS;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;

  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and

  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
