The Opportunity
We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Tax Manager in our Willis Tower, Chicago, IL location.
As the Senior Tax Manager, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of strategic foreign tax planning ideas to provide tax savings to the company, implementing approved tax strategies, and maintaining them. This position is also responsible for assessing foreign tax risks of existing structures and recommending strategies to mitigate or identify those risks. The position requires a strong understanding of transfer pricing and some income tax accounting knowledge.
What You'll Work On:
• Assist in the development and implementation of worldwide tax planning strategies that positively impact Abbott's effective tax rate for financial reporting purposes.
• Leads the completion of moderate level tax planning projects, or assist in complex tax planning projects, to optimize tax results in such diverse areas as entity structuring, transfer pricing, acquisitions, dispositions, liquidations, and cash repatriation.
• Represents Corporate Tax as a resource to provide tax advice to Treasury, Accounting, Legal, Abbott affiliates and to business units on routine tax questions, tax planning and tax compliance.
• Provide counsel on the structuring of international business transactions both with affiliates and third parties to ensure global tax optimization.
• Responsible for completing and documenting tax research and tax analysis connected with Abbott’s international business operations, audit defense, and internal restructuring.
• Manage and direct outside advisors for Europe, South America, Asia including local tax attorneys, big four accounting firms and economists.
• Maintain OUS tax audit tracker and quarterly tax questionnaires.
• Assist in evaluating foreign audit settlement proposals to determine the impact to the company under audit and assessment of a settlement on open tax years.
• Assist in preparing all intercompany agreements (Supply, License, Services) to support intercompany transaction flows.
• Provide advise and review of tax matters governing provisions in third-party agreements.
• Learns Abbott’s business and technology.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in the field of law, accounting, economics or comparable degree with a focus on tax and/or accounting
Minimum 8 years Tax experience with a multinational company or Tax consulting company (Big4 accounting firm or law firm)
J.D. degree or Qualified Accountant and or an LLM in tax.
Strong executive presence and presentation skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong income tax and transfer pricing expertise desired.
Broad knowledge of tax principles that apply globally
Ability to apply tax rules and concepts to develop tax planning structures and consider impacts of new tax legislation globally
Results and goal oriented.
Hands-on and self-starter mentality.
Able to manage responsibilities, internal project teams, and external advisers independently.
Strong communication and negotiation skills required, especially the ability to explain complication tax rules to non-tax senior leadership.

The base pay for this position is $127,300.00 – $254,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
