Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Functions
Loyola University Chicago is looking for a part-time research assistant to carry out and support various research and scholarly activities. This position requires substantial capacity to work effectively in a clinical research environment and community setting. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong time management skills, autonomy to work efficiently remotely, and the ability to use good judgment in daily tasks.
Overall study duties
Provides general assistance, as needed, to the faculty investigators and other research staff
Serves as the community liaison for cancer education initiatives in the surrounding area
Mentors new staff under direction as needed.
Works with other study staff to prioritize activities and research goals, including students.
Seeks out and engages with community resources and partners to support cancer health awareness
Performs other duties as required.
Responsibilities include:
Maintains current Blood borne Pathogen training, training and certification for shipping with dry ice, Good Clinical Practice ( GCP ) training updates and any training required by individual studies.
Follows policies and procedures in accordance with clinic, university, hospital and federal guidelines.
Maintains technical competencies.
Maintains knowledge of theories and methodologies of medical science research; ability to use research processes, tools and technologies to determine the safety and effectiveness of medical products and services intended for human use.
Recognizes ethical/compliance requirements within own area of responsibility.
Assists in study recruitment and participant management
Prepares and maintains study charts and records, including laboratory and exam results.
Collects medical histories, records vital signs, collects relevant biological specimens, performs non-invasive testing, conducts interviews, and records pertinent data on the appropriate research forms.
Monitors and orders laboratory and study supplies, as needed and across research sites.
Maintains study samples and assists with the shipment of study samples for analyses within and outside the study site.
Performs laboratory-based study sample preparation, and analysis, as needed.
Performs other duties as required.
Data Management
Prepares materials for reports to be written by faculty and staff related to scholarly activities.
Responsible for the transfer of data from other research sites.
Works to optimize data entry proficiency.
Participates in clinical research and community education activities as directed.
Raises concerns if research conflicts arise or if activities deviate from protocols.
Undertakes the accurate and complete collection of clinical data and selects appropriate forms for recording of data.
Maintains knowledge of and ability to utilize tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data.
Participates in projects to gather data for needs analysis.
Assesses common problems and obstacles surrounding community partnerships.
Detects and summarizes patterns in data and findings by producing simple reports.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Requires the academic knowledge of a health science related discipline (nutrition, exercise, clinical social work, etc.) and the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established procedures.
Ability to work on routine job with interpersonal contact skill.
Ability to interact with internal and external constituents.
Can prioritize work related activities effectively in a remote environment.
Minimum Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum Experience:
Required: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university
Preferred: community or clinical research experience, electronic health record knowledge, bi-lingual
