Ghafari Project Accountant in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description:

General Summary:

The Project Accountant will work with Project Managers to oversee financial administration of projects for the company, from project initiation to project close-out.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create, update and maintain projects in accounting system

  • Review contracts and proposals to ensure projects are properly setup, including complying with revenue recognition rules

  • Review labor and expense charges on assigned projects with Project Managers; perform labor adjustments and journal entries as required

  • Review and track consultant invoices against project budget

  • Participate in the completion of the billing and revenue recognition processes for the monthly close

  • Preparation of draft and final invoices on assigned projects

  • Completion of required client and consultant waivers, sworn statements and other required documentation

  • Review weekly project status reports and identify projects requiring further analysis; obtain and review updated project estimates to complete from Project Managers

  • Attend monthly project review meetings

  • Review Accounts Receivable aging and resolve outstanding items with Project Managers

  • Maintain project accounting files

  • Supports audit deliverables

  • Other duties & responsibilities as needed

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years of project accounting experience in a service/project-based business environment

  • Architecture/Engineering industry experience preferred

Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience with Deltek accounting software preferred

  • Knowledge of GAAP Revenue Recognition rules for service/project-based businesses

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with particularly advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to work independently and with Project Managers with strong attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet strict deadlines
