Job Description Summary

The Research Aide, under general supervision, is responsible for recruiting and interviewing patients, performing data collection and storage functions, administrative duties, and literature searches for several research studies. Will collect, transcribe, code, clean and enter data.

Job Description

The Research Aide will:

  • Assists in patient recruitment and data collection and retrieves medical record information.
  • Maintains an inventory of data collection forms to ensure ease of data retrieval.
  • Assists in the construction of data tables and the preparation of materials for presentations.
  • Conducts literature searches, copying and distributing articles as appropriate.
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to Research Scientist or Principal Investigator reporting relationship will vary based on department structure.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Work requires communication and mathematics skills normally acquired in High School.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Ability to accurately review and enter project data.
  • Analytical ability required to prepare reports, maintains data inventory, and perform literature searches.
  • Some typing required in order to prepare correspondence.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with patients, physicians and all Institute staff as well as to effectively work with supervisors from various research projects.

Working Conditions

  • Normal patient care environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
