Sargent & Lundy HVAC Engineer - Senior-Level in Chicago, Illinois
Description
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Working knowledge of model building codes and standards, mechanical codes, including ASHRAE, SMACNA and NFPA.
Perform computer aided calculations (i.e. Trane Trace) and appropriate rule of thumb calculations for heating/cooling load and duct design to approximate system design criteria.
Layout system designs based on design concepts, code requirements and as coordinated with project specifics and client requirements.
Willing to travel to clients’ offices / construction sites to interface with clients/contractors
Survey existing conditions when necessary and be able to accurately illustrate those conditions on survey documents for use during design.
Work closely with other disciplines to provide accurate drawings on schedule.
Review of design and construction submittal documents that are associated with the project.
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills that will enable individual to accurately converse with managements and outside clients as a representative.
The design responsibilities of the candidate include: developing the complete calculations, equipment sizing, specifications and project specific details and providing the work with accuracy and review final product to ensure that the scope of work is properly depicted. Additionally, the HVAC Engineer is responsible for coordinating their designs with the other trades (Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection), as well as the structure, architecture, civil and any other building trades.
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is required.
8+ years of relevant HVAC experience.
Experience with physical HVAC design (i.e. ductwork design, routing and supporting and equipment location/arrangement)
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microstation; A bility to create design drawings, flow diagrams, P&IDs, and schematics using computer design software
Prior knowledge of relevant codes and standards
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Experience with Fire Protection system design and related terms
Experience with Plumbing system design and related terms
Work experience in the industrial service industry
PE license preferred
