As a member of our US Technology, Infrastructure & Innovation (US TI&I) team, you’ll enable the continuous transformation of our Bank by accelerating the shift to digital, strengthening operational resilience, simplifying what we do, improving CIBC's speed to market and protecting our Bank's assets. You’ll work with teams work to maximize the investment in resources and technology while building an appropriate balance between high-touch client service and our fiduciary responsibility to protect CIBC, our clients, and our shareholders from undue risk.

CIBC is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the US Technology Organization as the Head of Payments, Commercial Banking, and Corporate Real Estate Technology. In this critical leadership role, reporting to the US Region CIO, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction and overseeing the successful delivery of software across the US Commercial Banking and Commercial Real Estate businesses through innovative and secure engineering practices. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge in designing and developing distributed systems, and cloud technologies, managing engineering teams, and integrating SaaS solutions.

Previous experience in payments and/or commercial banking is preferred.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading and managing the Payments and Commercial Banking Technology team, providing strategic direction and guidance to ensure the successful delivery of software and projects to meet business demands.

  • Developing a multi-year technology strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals to prioritize capital investment and ensure technology capabilities keep pace with business growth and expectations.

  • Overseeing the entire software development lifecycle from requirements gathering and design to coding, testing, and deployment, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.

  • Collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to understand business needs, identify opportunities for innovation, provide strategic guidance on technology solutions, and align technology efforts with business goals and priorities.

  • Applying cross-functional technical expertise and business knowledge, ensuring the use of industry best practices and emerging technologies.

  • Managing and mentoring a diverse team of software engineers, testers, project managers, and application support engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment and promoting professional and technical skills growth and development.

  • Managing relationships with technology vendors and third-party service providers, ensuring service levels are met and contracts are negotiated effectively.

  • Driving the development of complex, proprietary applications, overseeing the design and implementation of innovative solutions to meet business requirements. Stay abreast of regulatory change and industry trends impacting payments and commercial banking technology, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Ensuring application stability, reliability, and security, with a focus on client needs and expectations.

  • Monitoring and managing project budgets, resource allocation, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices and provide recommendations for technology advancements and process improvements.

  • People Management – Accountable to oversee and supervise the workflow of staff by providing ongoing technical assistance to support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals. Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values. Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in technology leadership roles, with a focus on payments and commercial banking. Extensive experience in software engineering application development, focus on Azure and/or .NET preferred. Extensive experience developing applications and designing scalable, secure, and high-performance distributed systems.

  • You have a strong understanding of the software development life cycle, including agile methodologies.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, OR extensive relevant experience.

You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
