Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a skilled Developer to work our technical leads, deliver project work, maintain systems, and support production. They will collaborate with other team members from start to finish: to obtain knowledge on how a project impacts our systems, how requirements should be implemented, working with delivery teams to draft and refine user stories, understand the high-level and low-level architecture, working with other developers to ensure development is done to plan, and working with EQE to test work delivered. This role’s goal will be to anticipate risks, form contingency plans, and work with leads to address these with technical solutions as applicable. All developers on our team are tasked with simplifying our application’s codebase by adhering to design patterns, refactoring complex or poorly designed code, and ensuring robust code integration practices.

  • Assist in design, develop and modify software applications/systems.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver solutions

  • Provides support to the software development leads

  • Works on one or more moderate to complex projects

  • Applies security code best practices throughout development cycle

  • Contributes to software documentation and user manuals

  • Complete comprehensive unit testing on all developed/enhanced software and supports deployment of software applications

  • Participates in code reviews to ensure code adheres to standards

  • Support and troubleshoot software systems as required, optimizing performance, resolving problems, and providing follow-up on all issues and solutions

  • Stays up to date on the latest industry trends and technology

Team details:

The Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) team at United Airlines is a 30-person division responsible for a complex system at the heart of the Commercial IT department. EMDs serve as the source of truth for the carriage and service contracts of United Airlines' passengers, and as a result, are integral to the airline's daily operations.

The EMD team works collaboratively with numerous other teams within United Airlines, contributing to the company's commitment to excellence. The work that EMD successfully delivers is highly intricate due to the nature of the industry, requiring a deep understanding of various elements such as EMDs, electronic tickets (etickets), Passenger Name Records (PNRs), forms of payment, and the wide array of products and services offered by the airline.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in Software Development

  • Effective Communication (verbal + written)

  • Demonstrates and eagerness to learn

  • Should be able to do hands-on design, development and unit testing for RESTful services in .NET

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Able to maintain a hybrid work model; physical attendance to Willis or Houston office every week is mandatory

  • Must have RESTful API experience in .NET 8.0

  • AWS or other Cloud Certifications

  • Exposure to Data Analytics

  • Abide by all the project and company guidelines and standards and to ensure that even the team members are doing so

  • Familiarity with agile principles and means of achieving outcomes, and a willingness to work with agile coaches / scrum masters

  • Airline Industry technologies and concepts like EMD, PNR, ETKTs

  • United Proprietary Technologies: EBS Framework, UCD Events, ETKT Events, PNR Events

  • Familiarity with payment processing at United Airlines

  • Familiarity with Angular, Node.JS

  • Familiarity with Monitoring Software: Data Dog, DynaTrace, Kibana

  • Familiarity with AWS EKS, ECS, Kubernetes, Route 53, Reddis Cache, IAM Role, S3 Bucket, DynamoDB, Aurora MySQL, SQS/SNS

  • Solutioning using eventing and asynchronous processes

  • Solutioning using multithreaded environments

  • Solutioning using microservices and distributed systems

  • Familiarity with Java

The base pay range for this role is $87,780.00 to $119,680.00.

The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
