Actalent Controls Engineer in Chicago, Illinois
Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description
The controls engineer will be joining the team to support ongoing critical projects within the facility. These projects are based on supplier rejections due to manufacturing issues that arise during production. Issues can include tooling, final inspection, or overall product quality.
Responsibilities
Support production in reducing/eliminating equipment and tooling downtime or scrap, utilizing good analytical methodologies.
Responsible for controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation, testing, and start-up assistance.
Support efficiencies via process change and automation.
Program automated equipment to conform with production requirements.
Design and quote electronic controls required to aid in production processes.
Receive quotes and recommend sources of control devices.
Facilitate and maintain process controls equipment.
Develop and design plant and process improvements (layout, equipment, process, ergonomics).
Identify key process controls/systems and provide appropriate resources to maintain them.
Ensure compliance with all applicable government safety and environmental standards.
Advise Maintenance Technicians.
Document all activities as required.
Adhere to all company guidelines for Emergency Evacuation to ensure employee safety.
Perform any additional responsibilities deemed necessary by management.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen-Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, Toshiba.
HMI or SCADA programming and configuration of any of the following software packages: Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, US Data, etc.
Minimum 2-year college education and 1 year of related experience in controls and assembly operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good mechanical and electrical skills.
Excellent leadership abilities, organizational and communication skills.
Proficient in advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Panel design and layout, wiring schematic capabilities.
Blueprint reading experience.
Experience with conveyor systems.
3 years minimum of experience in a similar role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Robotics experience is highly preferred, especially with Fanuc robots.
Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication abilities.
Strong analytical skills.
Work Environment
The facility has 6 total assembly lines and 17 Fanuc robots. Operations run on 3 shifts: A, B, and C. There are 4 suspension lines and 2 overhead lines. The controls team has an office in the center of the production floor. The role involves working primarily on the C shift, which operates Friday to Saturday from 6am to 6pm, and Sunday to Monday from 6pm to 6am. The environment is highly collaborative with no direct reports, but involves working directly with the maintenance team.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $44.00 - $50.00/hr.
