Deloitte Audit & Assurance - Commodities and Energy Markets- Manager in Chicago, Illinois

Work you'll do

As an CEM Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations of engagements. You'll closely work with the team to tackle accounting, auditing, and other issues, while using cutting-edge tools and technology. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare, plan and execute commodities trading related audit strategy related to CEM clients' financial statements

  • Plan and execute projects; set and monitor budgets

  • Identify and supervise staff; guide integration of overseas resources to drive efficient execution

  • Leverage artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and data visualizations

  • Provide excellent timely client service, deliver high quality work and strengthen client relationships

  • Participate in the proposal process for new clients and projects

  • Lead teams in providing technical accounting advice and in preparing detailed calculations related to commodity transactions in areas such as:

  • Derivatives and hedging

  • Consolidation

  • Revenue Recognition and related costs (ASC 606 and ASC 340-40)

  • Leases

  • Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL)

  • Business combinations

  • Lead teams that assist clients with the accounting and reporting aspects of transactions including structured commodity transactions, normal purchase normal sale election, hedge accounting

  • Lead teams that assist clients with commodity transacting related internal controls matter, including design, implementation, testing and remediation

  • Lead teams that assist clients in assessing impact of market trends on commodity risk management strategies, accounting policies and valuation methodologies

  • Manage and motivate teams with members at all levels

Qualifications

Required

  • 5-7 years of public accounting or equivalent experience including energy or commodity trading/marketing industry experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve

  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

Preferred

  • Up to date technical knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards

  • Knowledge of IFRS or other international accounting standards an advantage

  • Ability to perform research into technical accounting areas

  • Potential for extensive travel

  • Operational management experience to facilitate engagement economics

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,920 to $180,960.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
