Summary:

The Assistant Director of Prospect Research is responsible for identifying, researching and analyzing information attributed to individuals, foundations and corporations in support of Rush University Medical Center’s overall fundraising efforts. This role includes the identification and evaluation of potential donors and leaders with an emphasis on major gift prospects, preparation of written and other documentary reports, and data analysis to prioritize research tasks. Other responsibilities include overseeing the Rush Philanthropy Library, maintaining the filing system (filing and creating new folders) and the daily obituary process. The position reports to the Director of Prospect Research. The person holding this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Works with the Director to determine and establish goals, priorities, initiatives, policies and procedures for Prospect Research.

• Oversees weekly patient screening process which includes validating vendor ratings and gathering additional information for assignment purposes.

• Analyzes screening/predictive modeling results to assess the need for enhanced research.

• Produces well-researched and well-written profiles, briefings, prospect lists and short bios.

• Produces research notes on Rush event participants.

• Accurately records new and changing research information and data in the database.

• Monitors and disseminates news that might influence prospect identification at Rush, including stories on donors and prospective donors, Chicago-area news, trends in healthcare and medical institutions, and trends in philanthropy.

• Identifies possible new candidates for volunteer boards.

• Identifies and records relationships/cross-references among prospects and volunteers in the database of record.

• Recommends new reports or datasets to the reporting team that improves research and screening productivity

Required Job Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree.

•Minimum of two years of professional work experience in development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work.

•Demonstrated proficiency in conducting research and translating results to a variety of audiences, using online databases and other resources.

•Attention to detail and follow up, superior organizational skills and commitment to customer service.

•Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact.

•High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

•An exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative.

•Must be flexible and adaptable to new programs and able to adapt to change effectively.

•Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

•Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting.

•Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills characterized by listening, speaking and writing well.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

•An understanding of enterprise database applications for business, especially Ellucian’s Advance.

•Experience with internet-based tools, such as LexisNexis and wealth screening products; Broad understanding of online and print research tools and ability to implement best practices in prospect research.

•Past experience with philanthropic prospect research or prospect development within a health care organization.
