What will you be doing?

Circana is looking for an Accounting Director to play a pivotal role in leading and developing the Americas Accounting team, ensuring the month-end close is optimized amid ongoing transformational changes. This role requires strong leadership to implement best practices, implement and improve internal controls, enhance operational processes, and deliver accurate, timely financial results through month-end close management. This person will be working directly with Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, and Finance to deliver a smooth monthly close and compliance with internal controls.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting operations, US GAAP compliance, internal controls, and process improvements, with experience managing change and driving high performance in challenging environments. This role will be key in connecting strategy and initiatives to execution.

This role requires up to weekly visits to the Circana Chicago office, with additional visits as needed based on business demands.

This role also involves leadership responsibilities, including managing a team of 6 professionals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.
  • Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper documentation, accuracy, and compliance with policies.
  • Drive process improvements to streamline the close timeline while maintaining reporting accuracy and integrity.
  • Oversee and review account reconciliations to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to US GAAP standards.
  • Provide actionable analysis of financial results and variances, delivering meaningful insights to leadership.
  • Ensure financial policies are clearly communicated, consistently enforced, and regularly updated to align with US GAAP requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to maintain audit readiness and achieve successful audit outcomes.
  • Lead the implementation of BlackLine for reconciliations and other systems/tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure system integrations effectively meet accounting and reporting needs.
  • Maintain a robust control environment by monitoring the development and operation of controls related to the financial close process. Identify and address internal control deficiencies.
  • Develop and manage the Americas General Ledger Accounting team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting clear performance goals.
  • Identify skill gaps, implement targeted training programs, and provide ongoing feedback to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration within the team.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in financial transformation pr jects, process optimization, and change management initiatives.
  • Champion Circana\'s strategic initiatives and lead the team in achieving department-wide goals.
  • Create and deliver training materials to promote continuous improvement and excellence in work quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor\'s degree in accounting; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strongly prefer experience with public companies and SOX compliance.
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams in challenging or transitional environments, with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving setting.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including a track record of developing and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and SOX compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify issues, propose practical solutions, and implement changes effectively.
