About the Role

As a member of the UI/UX design team, you will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s state-of-the-art digital platform.

What You Will Do

You will join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees. In addition, all individuals hired into a early career role in Cat Digital will participate in L.E.A.D (learn, engage, adapt, develop), which is a 12 month onboarding program. Through this program, you will gain networking opportunities, Caterpillar, Cat Digital and technical acumen.

As a UI/IX designer or researcher, you may have the opportunity to develop interfaces for digital application features by leveraging a user centric design approach. This may involve conducting user research to understand the user pain points, concepting to gain alignment with product owners and conducting user testing to validate the solution and documenting the preferred interface. You may also evaluate current applications, design new features, work in Figma and learn design system best practices. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams by attending team ceremonies, meetings, participating in research activities, attending design sprints, workshops and more. Another area of responsibility may be conducting UX research for several workstreams. UX researchers will include usability testing, A/B card sorting, customer interviews, etc. The findings and customer insights will educate the product’s roadmap at the different stages of the product lifecycle.

What You Have – Skills and Experiences

Examples of skills and technologies that previous hires have utilized include:

  • Figma (wireframing and design), usertesting.com, Miro

  • Previous UX research experience and or user testing and design

  • Previous project management experience

  • Coding knowledge

  • Be familiar with or have used complex design systems

Degree Requirements

Currently attending or recently graduated from a 4-year accredited university/college with a bachelor’s degree or higher in UI/UX, User Experience Design, Human Factor Engineering or other related degree

Top candidates will also have

  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)

  • Expected graduation date between August 2023 through June 2025

  • Demonstrated experience using skills and technologies listed above

  • Previous demonstrated leadership experience

  • Previous technical work experience demonstrating technical aptitude

  • Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment

Additional Information

Locations for this position are typically Chicago and Peoria Illinois. Limited opportunities in Dallas, Texas

Basic relocation may be available, dependent on relocation qualifications

Wage and Employee benefit details

Base salary for this role ranges from $79,800 - $119,760. Actual salary will be based on degree, completed degree level and prior internship experience at Caterpillar. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
