Microsoft Corporation Principal Program Manager, Datacenter Operations Regional Leased Portfolio in Cheyenne, Wyoming

As part of the America’s Datacenter Operations team, the Principal Program Manager, Datacenter Operations Regional Leased Portfolio will provide leadership, direction and administration over the operational readiness and functionality of our regional lease portfolio working closely with operational teams on the ground and our lease providers across the region for both new and existing sites. In this role you will work collaboratively with all CO+I stakeholders to support, enable, and influence the vision and action necessary for the organization’s overall availability success.

Responsibilities

Regional DC Operations Program Management

  • Provide leadership, guidance, clarity and direction with oversight for projects, programs, and initiatives across the Leased Datacenter (DC) Operations (Ops) Portfolio in America's region for Datacenter Field Operations related to safety, availability, maintenance, commissioning, monitoring, and operational readiness, program adherence, and operational planning and execution.

  • Regional ownership with cross-region and global influence of datacenter level application of Lease DC Ops Policy and Standards to drive consistency, performance, and practice adoption across the portfolio while influencing change with your skill and expertise related to the reliable and successful operation of a widely diverse set of leased DC facilities.

  • Owning and driving resolution of any gaps in associated programs across the portfolio.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for field teams to submit lease operations feedback, lessor engagement needs, and all other points of interest related to our availability commitments including but not limited to inspections and other broad-sweeping program governance.

  • Lease operations program feedback/change control, including process improvements, updates to standards documentation, tooling and reporting improvements w/ key focus on maintenance, procedure execution, drills, construction, commissioning, operational strategy & readiness, and associated programs.

Lease Portfolio DC Ops & Critical Environments (CE) Focused Management, Operations, and Oversight

  • Lead, coach, and mentor Lease Portfolio DC Ops and CE Focused management teams conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on incidents and outages to ensure presentation to leadership is ready, all aspects are accounted for, and lessons learned propagated to other sites.

  • Provide additional on-site support to DC Ops personnel as needed during incidents, critical work periods, etc.

  • Monitor the campus/metro/region risk profile, advise on and drive action plans to reduce overall level of risk, and report/trend progress.

  • Ensure sites follow Microsoft policies, standards, Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), and guidelines.

  • Consult on DC Ops Leased site operational and CE related policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure they are aligned with current industry practices, requirements, and learnings across DC Ops.

  • Assist with the establishment of new Leased DC metro areas within the region by enabling and supporting onboarding activities.

  • Ensure Leased DC CE operating teams and personnel are trained on emergency response practices and are able to adequately respond to the primary Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) scenarios and execute other procedures accordingly.

  • Enable greater impact by standardizing procedures across area of influence. Drives alignment with region and global team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years experience of technical engineering experience related to Critical Environments Operations and Program Governance

  • OR 11+ years experience of technical engineering experience related to Critical Environments Operations and Program Governance

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings).

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in applicable engineering, mechanical or electrical field.

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) or similar certification.

  • Experience working with Leadership & Executive Team members within and outside of direct organization and company.

  • Experience across a wide array of Critical Environments infrastructure (e.g., Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Generator, Air Handling Units (AHU), Chillers), Sequence of Operations, and Maintenance & Performance regimens.

  • Experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM), Building Automation Systems (BAS), MSCF (Management Systems, Controls & Framework).

Data Center Operations Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,800 - $267,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,800 - $294,000 per year.
