About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to take a key role in designing, developing, and managing data visualization solutions pipelines and systems in a secure, multi-cloud environment. This role is critical for enabling advanced analytics and ensure data availability and security for our organization.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud-based data solutions, expertise in Snowflake and Power BI integration, and a strong commitment to working within compliance frameworks applicable to government cloud environments.
Responsibilities:
Data Modeling and Integration:
Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure data pipelines in AWS GovCloud and Azure GovCloud environments.
Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes for ingesting, transforming, and storing structured and unstructured data in Snowflake and other data stores.
Ensure high performance and reliability of data pipelines to support real-time and batch data needs.
Collaborate with Power BI developers to ensure data models and pipelines meet reporting and dashboard requirements. Build efficient data models in Power BI that support the reporting needs of the business.
Integrate data from multiple sources such as Snowflake, SQL Server, Excel, APIs, and cloud-based databases into Power BI.
Ensure data accuracy and integrity by developing appropriate data validation processes.
Performance Optimization:
Architect and optimize Snowflake environments, including database schemas, virtual warehouses, and data sharing configurations.
Implement data governance, auditing, and security practices within Snowflake to meet compliance standards.
Monitor and tune query performance for efficiency and cost management.
Data Governance and Security:
Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies, including user access control, data privacy, and sensitive data handling.
Collaborate with IT and data teams to implement secure and scalable data solutions within different databases.
Documentation and Training:
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, technical guides, and data dictionaries.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on data modeling and storage along with best practices within the organization.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay current with data modeling best practices and industry trends to continually enhance data usage and capabilities.
Recommend and implement enhancements to improve data visualization techniques, tool utilization, and reporting efficiency.
Qualification and Skill Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen due to contractual requirements
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and PowerShell.
Expert knowledge in data modeling and ETL processes.
Experience with cloud-native tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Lambda, Event Hubs).
Knowledge of orchestration tools such as AWS Glue, AWS Step Functions, Apache Airflow or Azure Data Factory, as well as provisioning tools such as Terraform.
Understanding of secure data practices in government-regulated environments.
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Advanced proficiency in SQL and relational database design.
Experience with Azure Data Services , Power BI Service, and Power BI administration.
Strong analytical skills to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
Strong communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience in Power BI features, including Power Query, Power Pivot, and DAX.
Experience in optimizing Power BI performance and troubleshooting performance-related issues.
Familiarity with SSRS, SSIS , and other Microsoft BI tools is a plus.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Intelligence, or a related field .
7+ years of hands-on experience modeling data, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
Experience working in agile environments and leading cross-functional teams.
Proven experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP GovCloud environments
Preferred Tools/Technologies:
Excel, SQL Server, Snowflake, and other relevant databases
AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse
Provisioning tools such as TerraForm, Ansible, Chef
Git, JIRA, or other project management tools
