Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Corporation Test Technician in CHESWICK, Pennsylvania

We are looking for a Test Technician to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location.

Your Responsibilities:

You will perform various mechanical, electrical, hydrostatic, and gas leak tests in accordance with established procedures and specifications on stators, rotors, stators-windings, cans, jackets, thermal barriers, thermowells, casings, terminal boxes, pumps, and generators in support of our manufacturing facility. In addition, you install facility related equipment, such as pumps, motors, and mechanisms, and operate such equipment on test after initial setup has been made.

Your Challenge:

  • Collect and summarize all operational data and compare results obtained to specification requirements, and where necessary, take corrective action to assure accurate test results.  Report results and deviations to Test Engineer or Supervisor.
  • Maintain test records and logbook for mechanism, hydrostatic and leak tests. Operate leak test equipment and ovens to dry component parts, such as rotors and stators.
  • Maintain surveillance of operating test equipment and report any indication of a malfunction to Test Engineer or Supervisor immediately.
  • Perform minor service functions on operating equipment, such as changing charts, changing oil, replacing orifice plates, or tightening flanges.
  • Perform resistance and electrical tests on pumps, motors, and components.
  • Operate cranes, fork trucks, or other testing department material handling equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of liquid and dry nitrogen, helium, lithium hydroxide, and existing testing fixtures.
  • Collect and test water samples for resistivity and pH.
  • Set up test facilities and prepare equipment, such as commercial motors, and pumps for any operational testing including installation and removal of test articles from the test facility.
  • Calibrate and zero adjust test instrumentation used at assigned test facilities, such as pressure gauges and Helium Leak detectors, to assure accurate test data results.  Fill out and affix calibration stickers or tags for proper equipment status identification.
  • Calibrate computer instrumentation, such as pressure transducers.  In addition, utilize the computer instrumentation at remote panels to the extent of analyzing and modifying readout data.
  • Calibrate pressure switches and flow raters.
  • Assist in the operation of test pump facilities. Checkout and operate instrumentation used to monitor equipment tests per Test Procedure, Routing, or Special Instructions consistent with their job code level.
  • Perform operational tests and runs on commercial motors per Test Procedure, Routing, or Special Instructions.
  • Perform calculations and evaluate test results to determine any deviating conditions from acceptance criteria or comparison to past data and report same to the Test Engineer or Supervisor.
  • Fabricate and assemble engineering testing devices, such as bearing text fixtures.
  • Revise mode or scope of test to obtain meaningful data and working with design engineer to observe phenomena.

What you Bring:

  • High School graduate with two years of technical school, or the equivalent.
  • 3-5 years' experience with mechanical or electrical testing.  Experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical fields, or equivalent will be considered.
  • Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience working with and adhering to written work instructions
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
