Dollar Tree Vice President, DC Operations in Chesapeake, Virginia

As the Vice President of Distribution Center Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operations of a region of distribution centers. You will play a critical role in ensuring efficient and effective distribution of products to our retail locations or customers, maximizing operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while creating an engaged and productive workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to optimize distribution center operations in alignment with the company's overall goals and objectives.

  • Drive operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability in distribution processes.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple distribution centers, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows from receiving through shipping.

  • Establish, monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of distribution center GM’s, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities.

  • Foster a culture of strong safety, engagement, accountability, and operational excellence among distribution center staff.

Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve service levels.

  • Leverage LEAN methodologies to drive continuous improvement and optimize operations

  • Champion innovation in distribution center operations, leveraging technology and automation where applicable to optimize processes.

Vendor and Partner Management:

  • Collaborate with suppliers, carriers, and logistics service providers to optimize transportation and logistics networks.

  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to ensure competitive pricing, service levels, and terms.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and company policies in distribution center operations.

  • Identify and mitigate operational risks related to inventory management, transportation, and workplace safety.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting:

  • Develop and manage distribution center budgets, capital expenditures, and operating expenses.

  • Provide input and support for network optimization and expansion initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Proven experience (typically 20+ years) in distribution center operations, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple sites.

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency in using warehouse management systems (WMS) including automated storage, retrieval packaging and sortation

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across functions and levels.

  • Strong budgeting and financial monitoring skills

  • Strong management and career development skills

  • Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, implement change, and lead teams through transformational initiatives.

  • Location requirement: remote

  • Travel 75%
