Chesapeake Regional Healthcare Nursing Quality Specialist in Chesapeake, Virginia
Summary
The Nursing Quality Specialist is responsible for collaborating with Chesapeake Regional Healthcare Nursing Leaders, nursing staff and Quality Leaders to meet Magnet/CRH nursing quality goals. Maintains the NDNQI database and assists with the implementation of best practices to improve patient outcomes. The Nursing Quality Specialist also performs project-based chart reviews, benchmarking activities and staff education in support of performance improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Manage the NDNQI database, meet all data submission requirements, serve as resource for others regarding nursing sensitive indicators and NDNQI requirements
Assist Department Director and Magnet Program Director with Magnet data and performance improvement requirements as assigned
Working with Nursing Leadership and Magnet Program Director, assist with nursing satisfaction survey administration and analysis
Working with Wound Nurses and Quality team, assist with skin prevalence and restraint utilization studies as needed
Co-Chair Falls Committee with Nurse Manager or designee, working to reduce preventable falls in collaboration with Fall Committee members; prepare agenda and meeting materials, facilitate meeting, and manage follow-up items
Review falls incidents concurrently and retrospectively, evaluate post-fall huddles and ACA findings, track and trend findings, prepare reports for stakeholders.
Provides ongoing data analysis and trending of all NDNQI data with benchmarking.
Generate graphs and quality reports to share with stakeholders and designated Committees.
Assist with sepsis core measure abstraction as needed
Actively participate in Nursing Shared Governance Committees and Magnet Steering Committee serving as NDNQI expert
Collaborate with Quality department, Patient Safety Manager, Leaders, and others to meet CRH nursing quality goals
Effectively manages assigned projects with a level of independence in performance of the role and/or solution of problems
Identify and prepare safety stories and safety messages using a 3-part structure for use at meetings and huddles
Other duties as assigned to include coverage of essential departmental functions and services.
Actively participate as the department representative on designated multidisciplinary teams and Committees
Support clinical operations and clinical initiatives as assigned
Attend required hospital-wide orientation meetings, and in-services
Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program,Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing
Experience: 5+ years in clinical nursing
Basic knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to quality and process improvement functions and quality tools and methodologies, to include Casual Analysis activities
Working knowledge of basic business software such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicants must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia, and must obtain CPHQ or CPSS certification within one (1) year of hire.
