THE OPPORTUNITY

In this role, you will support the Real Estate division in all aspects of financial planning & analysis, including development of the annual budget, monthly forecasting, and strategic financial planning. The department is responsible for over a billion dollars in annual capital and op ex spend. You will advance not only financial, but also operational analytics for real estate, store construction, and property & facilities management. Your work will be in support of Dollar Tree’s aggressive store growth and renovation objectives and in developing and executing the strategic initiatives to support them. This position will offer a modern and thoughtful approach to data analysis utilizing the latest technologies with the goal of accelerating the company’s growth agenda, advancing Dollar Tree’s business objectives, and contributing to EBITDA and operating income improvements.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the FP&A team responsible for the financial and operational analytics of the company’s Real Estate division by partnering with functional and department heads to develop and build respective SG&A and capex budgets and forecasts, track actuals vs. plan and ensure spending remains within designated thresholds

  • Support the development, implementation, and automation of driver based rolling forecasts

  • Prepare and compile monthly detailed financial results and analysis for presentation to Senior Management. This will include variance explanations versus forecast, prior year, and the annual budget.

  • Gather, clean, and analyze big data to gain greater insight and provide more targeted strategic recommendations

  • Support the monthly forecast process, including gaining alignment with business partners in Real Estate, Construction, and Facilities on key assumptions, and preparing executive level summaries.

  • Support preparation and analysis of the annual budget.

  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve reporting processes

  • Develop innovative financial and operational analytics and reporting for the department that provide strategic insight to department leaders that assist in optimal decision making.

  • Support scenario planning to provide leaders with potential financial outcomes resulting from various of business decisions

  • Support the development of business cases and return on investment calculations for projects. Build financial models to evaluate profitability, such as NPV, IRR and Payback Period measures.

  • Assist supervisor and other team members with ad-hoc analysis, modeling and data gathering projects as needed.

  • Present findings to management

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, economics, or related quantitative field

  • 2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis

  • Excellent written/oral communication and data presentation skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience with dashboarding tools such as Tableau or Power BI

  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in related field

  • Retail experience

  • Experienced with Alteryx and IBM Planning Analytics

  • Experience with Big Data

  • Experience with statistical analyses and data modeling that leverages both AI and Machine Learning

  • Knowledge of programming languages, such as SQL, Python, and R
