Senior Operations Manager – Aon Underwriting Managers

Aon are currently recruiting a Senior Operations Manager to join Aon Underwriting Managers. The Senior Operations Manager will be primarily responsible for the delivery of effective operational support to the AUM business, driving high quality internal standards and practices, and shaping and managing internal continuous improvement initiatives as the business continues to scale.

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Aon Underwriting Managers

Aon Underwriting Managers (AUM) is the in-house MGA working on behalf of insurers to provide underwriting, claims and aggregation services to Aon’s broking divisions, supporting UK and global clients.

AUM works with colleagues across the business globally to design and deliver market leading solutions across a broad range of commercial classes.

The business is in an exciting growth phase with opportunity to shape new processes and technologies, to continue driving improved client outcomes and high performance teams.

What the day will look like

No two days will look the same, from designing underwriting and claims processes for new products, to running a small team, your role will require flexibility in style and approach. You will be empowered to run and manage your workload, planning and prioritising quarterly activity, which may include running small projects as well as operating as an SME, contributing your expertise to larger projects.

Reporting to the AUM COO, you will interact with different stakeholders across the UK business including AUM teams as well as other functions, such as Aon Business Services to drive targeted outcomes.

How this opportunity is different

This is a key role for AUMs operations team, central to ensuring the AUM business continues to scale with effective processes and technologies. Your expertise will shape decisions on how processes evolve and how new products operate, whilst supporting the broader service that AUM provide to broking teams.

AUM is a complex business with a number of underwriting operating models, and operating in different markets – from mid-market UK retail to global large risk, London Market. This role is focused on ensuring continued growth is supported operationally, with a key focus process effectiveness and service.

What the day will look like

Responsible for ensuring AUM are able to provide a first class service to brokers and insurers through effective use of technology and process, acting as SME in major projects and taking a continuous improvement approach leading local initiatives.

As a senior member of the operations team reporting to the AUM Chief Operating Officer, you will:

  • Work with the AUM COO to define the long-term operational and digital strategy to support key business objectives.

  • Lead the operational planning and delivery of new initiatives including new structured portfolio solution opportunities, process redesign and technology

  • Attend quarterly Operations Management Meeting, reporting on current and planned activity

  • Deputise for COO as required, including engagement with the AUM Client Service Centre

  • Define and deliver a continuous improvement programme to include operational aspects of the Underwriting and Claims processes, working with respective leads to identify and prioritise.

  • Manage or participate in change initiatives providing critical assessment, effective allocation of resources and delivery of agreed outcomes.

  • Responsible for resolution of high impact operational issues requiring swift and measured decision making.

  • Responsible for monitoring and delivery of KPIs as defined by the COO and AUM Executive Leadership

  • Drive improvement in key operational results working with underwriting, claims, and the AUM Client Service Centre

  • Line Management Responsibility

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Experience working in Insurance operations and/or projects, ideally within the London Market

  • Experience with delegated authorities and technology beneficial

  • Line management experience beneficial

  • Experience documenting and analysing process effectiveness

  • Experience assessing operational capability gaps and developing them for the future

  • Strong understanding of managing KPIs and operating within a regulated environment

  • Experience managing a number of projects simultaneously

  • Client and service focused, strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels

  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal

  • Strong understanding of managing risk and the regulatory environment
