Role Statement

At our lumber yard, the Outside Sales Representative makes outside calls and contacts, and provides professional sales and service to commercial customers in a knowledgeable manner. 

Outcomes for Success

• Develop potential customer leads and make effective sales presentations.
• Follow up with prospects and provide product and material application information, as needed.
• Observe work in progress at construction sites to determine material needs.
• Consults with client to determine functional and spatial requirements and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs and building time. 
• Prepare material estimates, price quotations, invoices and delivery instructions.
• Achieve greatest gross margin dollar potential on all sales.
• Assist with customer service problems, exchanges and/or refunds.
• Interface with yard, store and office personnel to ensure complete customer satisfaction. 
• Handle special orders and assignments.
• Assist credit department to ensure all credit requirements have been met.
• May perform other duties as assigned. 

Location

This position will be performed onsite at our store. Remote work is not available for this role. 

Wages

Starting wages will be based on years of experience and education.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of either on the job experience or formal education 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Previous sales experience, preferable in the lumber and building materials industry is preferred. 
• Bachelor's degree

• Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• Frequent reaching-extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
• Constant use hands/fingers to handle or feel (operate, active, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, position)
• Occasional sitting.
