Candidates best suited for this position will have electrical engineering experience including, but not limited to, Substation Physical, Substation Protection and Controls, Substation Protection, Telecommunications, and Transmission Planning.

JOB SUMMARY:

In a technical supervisory capacity, plans, develops, coordinates and directs large and important engineering projects and a number of small projects, both with many complex features for the engineering and engineering design of substation and switchyard facilities, telecom facilities, and/or transmission line facilities. A majority of the work supervised is comparable to that described for senior engineers , while also directing A/E discipline leads and project managers. Typical assigned work includes a large number of projects and associated resources, representing multi-million dollars of budgetary oversight.

Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and resolves important questions. Develops and plans staged designs as required by individual or multiple projects. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work results from progressive experience in transmission and/or related areas. Technically supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of multidiscipline contract partner engineers and technicians, estimates budgets and schedules, and assigns work to meet completion dates.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the technical aspects and oversite of engineering projects. Business responsibilities include budget, schedule, monitoring and controlling expenditures, change control, and invoice approval.

  • Performs in lead role as responsible engineer on projects, provides guidance to project teams, and provides technical direction for multi-discipline projects performed by contract engineering partners.

  • Ensures that valid requirements and standards are identified and satisfied, assists in the approval process, approves project change results within approved project limits, allocates contingency, and provides input on lessons learned reviews at project completion.

  • Reviews the work of contract engineers, technicians, and engineering consultants. Work consists of the full range of engineering including technical contract administration, start-up, design oversight, procurement support, construction support, and project closure.

    Performs evaluations on engineering projects, accounting for quality of work, schedules, budgets, and safety and environmental considerations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters. Provides consultation to senior engineers concerning unusual problems and developments.

SKILLS AND PROFICIENCES:(may be job or organization specific)

Requires sound knowledge of engineering practices as it relates to the duties of the position. Must possess good communication skills, organizational skills and computer skills (Microsoft Office, ACAD, Maximo, etc.) Experience with project management desired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Licensed Professional Engineer and membership in professional/technical societies is desirable. A minimum of 8 years of experience in utility engineering is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Telework may be performed from within the TVA Work Area. Daily site visits may be required 3-4 times/month around the Tennesee Valley region. Employees are responsible for meeting the established reporting requirements of their business unit or position, which may vary based on business needs. Employees will not receive travel reimbursement from the virtual work location to their TVA official work location.
