EPB Field Operations Superintendent, Preventative Maintenance Network in Chattanooga, Tennessee
PURPOSE
The Field Operations Superintendent will oversee the Preventive Maintenance Department, prioritizing the reliability and safety of the Network Underground System and other manhole systems within the company's service area. Key responsibilities include setting work priorities, keeping management informed, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and established procedures. The superintendent will lead the department's team, planning, organizing, and supervising their tasks and communicate and promote EPB performance measures to employees to ensure company success.
DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct field supervision to ensure assigned tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Investigate and document abnormal situations, considering customer needs and reliability.
Collaborate with the Key Customer Group and Field Service Logistics on outages, assist in investigating unusual events that disrupt customers’ power, and work to prevent future occurrences.
Identify, monitor, and correct employee performance among reporting staff promptly and decisively; hold employees accountable for their actions and enforce changes through coaching, goal-setting, feedback.
Monitor workload, output, proficiency, customer service, morale, CAD system usage, safety adherence, EPB policy compliance.
Take necessary action and inform the department Manager of problems, progress, trends, and changes.
Optimize resource allocation across departments to ensure efficient operations and meet departmental responsibilities; Manage annual leave and overtime cost-effectively.
Investigate property damage and vehicle accident claims for the department.
Participate in developing standards, practices, work rules, equipment specifications, and selection.
Manage the application of standards, adherence to work rules, and equipment performance, acting as necessary.
Conduct safety training and coordinate with Safety for any additional training needs.
Prepare and submit written and computer-generated evaluations of personnel performance in a timely, professional, and honest manner.
Supervise department personnel in conjunction with the Department Manager.
Pull calls on a systematic basis to ensure proper response to system needs.
Be accessible by phone or email, and available for system emergencies.
Establish and execute special departmental projects and perform miscellaneous duties assigned by the department Manager.
Utilize field experience to make decisions that balance customer needs and cost-effectiveness.
Make recommendations to the department Manager regarding section efficiency and productivity improvements.
Recommend training programs and approve course material and testing standards.
Check time sheets daily for accuracy, completion, and union rule compliance.
Ensure all jobs are on time and within budget per cost projections.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A Journeyman Electrician Certificate and be a qualified lead cable splicer or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by Department
Manager.
Knowledge of department functions and problems, attaining high degrees of productivity, employee morale, and finding and administering solutions to technical and personnel issues.
5+ years experience in a supervisory or leadership position in electric operations preferred.
Extensive work experience in operation and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution systems.
Extensive exposure to emergency/disaster operations.
CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles. Class A driver's license with a DOT health card and the authorization to drive Class I, II, III, IV, and V vehicles preferred; Insurable under the company's insurance policy.
Ability to exercise appropriate discretion in conveying confidential information.
Ability to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
Willingness to develop and implement changes in standards and practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Available to work after hours and during emergencies.
Ability to handle stressful situations and time pressures.

E PB provides electric and communications services, which are considered critical infrastructure by the Department of Homeland Security. This EPB job is essential to support this critical infrastructure and may be required to work onsite or in the field to maintain these services.
