EPB Electrician in Chattanooga, Tennessee

PURPOSE

The Electrician performs maintenance, construction, inspection, testing, and repair work on substation and underground facilities on the electrical distribution and telecommunication systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, build, inspect, test, and repair underground facilities, including high voltage cables, network protectors, limiters, switchgear, etc.

  • Perform work on energized secondary in enclosed spaces per safety rules and regulations.

  • Install network and padmount equipment in utility holes and vaults, including electrical hardware.

  • Locate faulted or damaged cable and repair or replace, including restoration of faults on burning secondary.

  • Load, transport, and unload electrical equipment/material using approved rigging methods.

  • Repair, test, and refurbish distribution transformers.

  • Read, interpret, and work from schematic, wiring diagrams, written instructions, and equipment manufacturers' manuals.

  • Report on tests performed, equipment condition, work completed, and other items required to maintain equipment on the power system.

  • Operate EPB vehicles and aerial equipment and use various other tools and testing equipment.

  • Work efficiently and safely to produce quality work while adhering to EPB Safety rules regarding the proper use of equipment and entry regulations.

  • Maintain, build, inspect, test, and repair substation equipment, including transformers, load tap changers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, etc.

  • Excavate ditches for electrical conduits, ground mats, water lines and for the installation of underground cable.

  • Work effectively alone and in a crew environment.

  • Follow all EPB safety rules while performing work. This includes working under cautions and clearances, using cover-up and rubber gloves when required, checking for gas in manholes using gas-detecting equipment and following confined space entry regulations.

  • Work overtime as requested by supervisor for planned work or to respond to system emergencies at or above 70% rate.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school education or equivalent.

  • Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent experience.

  • Worked in a Journeyman Electrician role within the last 5 years.

  • Meet the minimum required score on the EPB assessment test.

  • Qualified and experienced lead cable splicer is preferred

    CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid driver’s “Class A” CDL or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days and be authorized to drive an EPB vehicle.

  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, prints, and equipment manuals and follow simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

  • Ability to pass FIT test for respirators.

  • Ability to complete Confined Space Training and Rescue Training.

  • Effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

May perform other duties as assigned.
